On Friday August 9, 2024 I was dispatched along with Ofc Cruz to a stabbing at the Underwood Lodge At 1304 Underwood St. I was at the intersection of Mitchell St and Veterans Ave when the call came out and I immediately ran code 3 from my location. While I was en route, dispatch updated units to bolo for the attacker, which was described as a female wearing a blood covered green T shirt. She was last seen running towards Underwood St. I was unable to locate the suspect and focused on finding the victim, due to the nature of the call being a stabbing, needing to secure the area for EMS and Fire if they were needed.
Upon my arrival, I circled the property, entering the parking lot and driving through the middle of the complex then back around the outer area, until I finally was able to locate the victim on the east side of the complex. I immediately called in to dispatch and instructed them to have Fire and EMS en route code 3. The victim, identified himself as [VICTIM #1], was bleeding profusely from the left arm and leg.
As I approached, I realized that the victim was bleeding from multiple wounds to the point that I could not be certain how many wounds he had suffered. I put on my nitrile gloves and asked the only witness that was standing by, [WITNESS #1], for clean towels or anything that I could use to slow the bleeding. When [WITNESS #1] returned within moments I began applying pressure to the wound on the left arm of Mr [VICTIM #1]. The wound above his knee, was also bleeding profusely, and I instructed Mr [VICTIM #1] to apply pressure to the wound on his knee, with more of the towels. As I was applying pressure, Mpo Mcbrayer and Det Kumnick were the next officers to my location. As they arrived, I informed them of the seriousness of the injuries, and Mcbrayer immediately began documenting the area around me with his body camera. Fire and EMS arrived on scene within minutes and I handed over treatment of the patient/victim to them.
As Fire and EMS worked to control the bleeding of the patient/victim, it was discovered that the patient/victim was stabbed multiple times in the torso. When this was finished, I sealed off the area from the southeast corner, of the building out around the parked cars along the building and north towards Underwood St stopping the crime scene tape just before the end of the building and then back to the building. With the scene taped off, Mcrayer began a crime scene log, and the investigation was handed off to Det Kumnick.
At some point officers hill and O’neil and Cruz arrived on scene and began canvassing the area for witnesses and searching for video footage. O’neil was able to determine the location of the suspect in room [REDACTED] of the complex. Myself and Ofcs hill and Cruz attempted to make contact with the suspect, with no success. Cruz recognized the suspect from previous encounters as Rosie Monterrey-Deleon.
I was given the task of making sure that no one entered or left room [REDACTED] for the next few hours. Once it was determined that the suspect had not left the room after entering, an incident command was established by Lt Bishop. I stood by securing the room until a warrant was secured and GSP could breach the room to enter and capture the suspect.
Once GSP was on scene and the suspect was secured, she complained to GSP of head and neck pain. EMTs were brought to the scene and assessed her on scene and determined that she should go to the hospital to be cleared of any injuries. I was given the task of riding in the ambulance with the suspect while she was transported to Hamilton Medical Center to be cleared of any injuries that she may have sustained.
During the transport I did not observe any visible injury. The suspect didn’t speak of the incident while in the ambulance. Ofc O’neil followed the ambulance while I rode with the paramedics and the suspect. Once on scene at the ER, Ofc O’neil and I collected the bloody clothes of the suspect and placed them in paper bags. Once this was finished, I delivered those bags and their contents to the CID office at the police department.
This ended my involvement in this case.
