On June 30, 2024 at 3:50 pm I, Ofc Miller was dispatched to the emergency room of Hamilton Medical Center located at 1200 Memorial Dr in reference to a disturbance that had already occurred.
Once on scene, I spoke with [VICTIM #1], a member of public safety at the hospital. [VICTIM #1] stated that there was a patient, identified as Michael Todd Langford, in one of the rooms who was brought in by Whitfield County Sheriff’s office this last Friday on a [REDACTED BY AGENCY] medical hold for getting into a disturbance with his family and biting his father’s finger off. [VICTIM #1] stated that Michael had been a continuous problem since he brought in by not listening to the staff and trying to leave his room.
Today, [VICTIM #1] advised that when they had put Michael back in his room, he kept trying to inch forward and leave the room. [VICTIM #1] stated they kept having to tell Michael to step back and when he was about to shut the rooms door, Michael suddenly lunged forward at him and tried to grab him by the throat. [VICTIM #1] stated that another public safety officer stepped in to help subdue Michael and they placed him into handcuffs placing him back inside his room and then calling us.
I then spoke with [WITNESS #1], who was a nurse there at the hospital. [WITNESS #1] stated that after Michael was placed back inside his room by public safety and told to stay, he kept inching forward. [VICTIM #1] stated that Michael suddenly lunged towards [VICTIM #1] and tried to grab him by his throat with his right hand.
At that point, myself and Pfc Morang who had arrived on scene, entered Michael’s room. We escorted him out to my patrol car where we switched public safety’s handcuffs out for mine, checking for fit and double locking for safety, before placing him into the back seat of my patrol car. Michael was not safety belted in at this time because of officer safety since Michael was a known biter. I then transported Michael to the Whitfield County Sheriff’s office where I secured my sidearm in a lock box before retrieving Michael from the back seat of my patrol car and handing him over to the booking staff with warrantless arrest number 68971 for OCGA 16-5-23 simple battery. Booking staff was given a copy of Michael’s 10-13 form along with his personal affects from the hospital.
The back seat of my patrol car was searched for contraband prior to placing Michael inside and again after taking him out at the jail. No contraband was found.
