On October 1st, 2024 at 1745hrs Deputy Phillips, Deputy Diak, and Deputy Woods were dispatched to the Kanku’s on Airport Rd, 3385 Airport Rd, in reference to a domestic dispute in progress and the caller, [WITNESS #1], saw the female hit the male several times.
Once on scene, Deputy Phillips made contact with the other Deputies on scene and spoke with Deputy Woods. He advised that both parties, [VICTIM #1] and Lavonna got on scene and she threw the car key out and into the grass. Deputy Woods advised that they started to bicker and it turned physical and that the caller witnessed the altercation.
Deputy Phillips then spoke with the caller, [WITNESS #1]. [WITNESS #1] said that she pulled in and saw her (Lavonna) yelling at him([VICTIM #1]) and he was backing away. [WITNESS #1] said that she kept going at him and the next thing she knew she reared back and hit him in the back of the head. [WITNESS #1] said that Lavonna hit [VICTIM #1] with a closed fist and it knocked his hat off. [WITNESS #1] said that [VICTIM #1] kept trying to back up but she kept trying to hit him. [WITNESS #1] said that Lavonna did not stop until she said something.
Deputy Phillips then spoke with Lavonna. She said that after the altercation last night, see report 20245714. She ended up going home with him and they continued to argue. She said that [VICTIM #1] hit her on the back of the head during the argument at the gas station. Deputy Phillips placed Lavonna in handcuffs, which were double locked and checked for fit, and placed her in the rear seat of the patrol car.
Deputy Phillips then spoke with [VICTIM #1]. Deputy Phillips could observe marks on [VICTIM #1]’s face that appeared to have come from scratches and marks on his neck. Deputy Phillips asked [VICTIM #1] what happened. He said that they got into an argument and when they got to the gas station parking lot she started to hit him. [VICTIM #1] said that Lavonna grabbed his throat with one hand and started to hit him with the other. He said that she told him “I’ll kill you right now.” [VICTIM #1] said that when she did this he was not able to breath. Deputy Phillips could observe marks on the front and sides of [VICTIM #1]’s neck. Deputy Phillips had a hard time hearing him from his raspy voice. Deputy Phillips took pictures of his injuries to be submitted to evidence.com.
Deputy Phillips then transported Lavonna to the Whitfield County Detention Center. While transporting, Lavonna said that she was hit in the front of the forehead by [VICTIM #1]. Deputy Phillips advised her of her Miranda Rights and she agreed to speak. Deputy Phillips said to her “I thought you said he hit you in the back of the head.” Deputy Phillips then asked her how he got the marks on his face and neck and she said that he did that to himself. Lavonna started to argue with Deputy Phillips when he told her that she was being charged with family violence. Lavonna said that they have never been married or lived together for longer than 7 years. Deputy Phillips informed her of the requirements to meet family violence and that using the information she provided in report 20245714 that she would be charged with it. Lavonna said in report 20245714, that she was on again off again boyfriend and girlfriend with [VICTIM #1] and that they have lived together. She said that they were moving into a place together today. Deputy Phillips asked her if he caused the injuries to himself, why would a third party call in. Lavonna said that she did not know why they were together.
Deputy Phillips then called Deputy Woods again upon arriving at the Detention Center. He said that [VICTIM #1] also told him that she choked him and he could not breath. Deputy Phillips obtained Lavonna’s criminal history and charged her with O.C.G.A 16-5-21 Aggravated Assault-FV on Warrantless#69517. Deputy Phillips then turned Lavonna over to detention staff.
