Discretion is advised.]On 23 February 2025at approximately 0740 hours, Deputy Rice was dispatched to I75 S for a bolo.Dispatched advised Sgt Buchanan and Deputy Rice that a vehicle had struck multiple guardrails, missing a front wheel, almost catching, and was exiting the interstate at exit 326 I75 S Carbondale Rd towards the Circle K. Dispatched advised responding patrols that a witness saw a male wearing a black jacket and carrying a black backpack take off walking North behind the old gas station.Deputy Rice arrived on the scene and noticed a gray Ford F150 sitting in the right-hand lane on Carbondale Rd. Deputy Rice made with the registered owner of the vehicle, [WITNESS ], and asked what happened. [WITNESS ] informed Deputy Rice he was sleeping in the passenger seat when he was woken up by his truck hitting something. Deputy Rice asked [WITNESS ] if he was the only one in the vehicle and he said no someone else was driving. Deputy Rice asked [WITNESS ] who it was and stated [REDACTED] was his name. Deputy Rice asked [WITNESS ] where they were coming from and he stated Kentucky. Deputy Rice asked [WITNESS ] where they were heading to and he stated to Resaca for work. [WITNESS ] informed Deputy Rice that he had 90 pills of Colonpan that were in prescription bottles prescribed to him. Deputy Rice relayed [WITNESS ]’s and the vehicle’s information to dispatch which came back to [100 BLOCK] Maple Creek Rd, Williamsburg, Kentucky. Deputy Rice asked [WITNESS ] what they were doing in the area and he stated they were coming here for work cleaning chemical tanks.[VICTIM ] was at the scene in his motor with an attached trailer and informed Deputy Rice that the F150 had hit him on I75 S. [VICTIM ] stated that he was traveling and saw the F150 make with his trailer the go off the road.Once the traffic accident scene was cleared, Deputy Rice transported [WITNESS ] to the Flying J in Resaca and he was going to call for a ride.Deputy Rice went back to Carbondale Rd to canvass the area for the driver of the vehicle. Deputy Rice encountered a male matching the description of the driver. Deputy Rice conducted an investigative stop and made with Jonathan Melton. Deputy Rice relayed Jonathan’s information to dispatch and they relayed that it came back to [100 BLOCK] Maple Creek Rd, Williamsburg, Kentucky, and the driver’s license was suspended. Deputy Rice asked Jonathan what he was doing back here and he stated he was fishing. Deputy Rice asked Jonathan if he knew anything about the vehicle accident involving the gray truck earlier this morning and he stated no. Deputy Rice asked Jonathan where he was coming from and he stated Pigeon Forge. Deputy Rice asked Jonathon where he was headed to and he stated here for some work cleaning tanks for Dalton Foam.Deputy Rice asked Jonathan how he got here and he stated walking. Deputy Rice asked Jonathan if he was hitchhiking and he stated yes. Deputy Rice informed Jonathan that the person involved with the accident was from Williamsburg Kentucky too and asked if he knew anything about him and he stated no. Deputy Rice informed Jonathan that the driver lived at [100 BLOCK] Maple Creek Rd, Williamsburg, Kentucky and he stated my friends live there. Deputy Rice asked Jonathan who his friends were and he named a few people with [WITNESS ] being the last one. Deputy Rice asked Jonathan if [WITNESS ] last name was [WITNESS ] and he stated yes. Deputy Rice informed Jonathan that [WITNESS ] was the one involved in that accident. Jonathan then informed Deputy Rice that he was the one driving the Ford F150 that had the motor vehicle accident. Deputy Rice placed Jonathan in handcuffs checking for fit and double locking them. Deputy Rice asked Jonathan why he left the scene and he stated he needed to call his mom and that he knew his license was suspended.Deputy Rice informed Jonathan that he was being arrested for hit and run and driving on a suspended license. Deputy Rice conducted a of Jonathan and his backpack and placed him in the back of his patrol car. Deputy Rice transported Jonathan to Whitfield County Detention Center where he was turned over to booking with no issues.Deputy Rice issued citation number 314826 for driving while the license is suspended and citation number 314827 for fleeing from an accident.[End of Narrative].
