This issue has previously been dealt with by myself (Assistant Chief Reynolds) when Erica Ellis (dog owner) was still living at the listed residence (2025-00002722) due to Erica allowing the dogs to run loose in the neighborhood. She stated to me at that time that she had taken the dogs in and was trying to provide a home for them so they would not get sent to the shelter. After numerouse complaints, she was issued an accusation to the City of LaFayette Municipal Court for Restraint of Animal (2025-00002722).On 7/14/2025 we responded to this residence in reference to the dogs continuing to run loose and no one living at the residence anymore. We arrived on scene and found two dogs (white pit bull and shepherd mix) standing in the front window of the house and two shepherd mix dogs that are white in color in the front yard. These dogs match the description of the dogs described to ACO Snyder and the pictures provided by the complainant from his home security camera system. We spoke with the maintenance man [WITNESS #2] of [400 BLOCK] Warrenfells Street and he advised that the tenants who were staying at [400 BLOCK] Warrenfells, had moved out and were no longer living there. At this point, the kennel at the LaFayette Police Department was full and ACO Snyder started feeding the dogs at the residence and attempting to see if the owner of the dogs was coming back to get them. The owner never returned to retrieve the dogs throughout the week or the weekend. On 7/21/2025 I was contacted by the complainant again and he advised that the dogs came over to his residence again over the weekend while he was trying to grill. He had to shut his grill off and go back inside his residence due to the dogs being in his yard and attempting to get his food.We responded to [400 BLOCK] Warrenfells Street and started catching the dogs and bringing them to the police department. While attempting to catch the dogs, [WITNESS #3] came over and attempted to help with catching the dogs as well and gave a written statement confirming that the dogs had been abandoned for nine (9) days with no food or water being provided by the owner. The dogs are currently being held at the LaFayette Police Department kennels for the standard five (5) day hold.I will be applying for warrants for the listed offender.[End of Narrative].
