On July 2nd, 2024
, I, Deputy Alan Valentine-Nelson 307, was dispatched to a domestic dispute located at [100 BLOCK] Spring Forest Ln.
Upon arrival, I made with the victim, [VICTIM ], who was waiting on the front porch; she stated there was a physical altercation and that the suspect had fled the scene. Upon my approach I immediately noticed a smashed iphone in the hands of a Juvenile and red marks on [VICTIM ]’s neck.
[VICTIM ] stated the suspect, Ajah Canada-Benson, an ex-boyfriend, was over at the residence speaking with [VICTIM ] inside her bedroom upstairs. She stated that while she was standing next to the T.V., Ajah was sitting on the bench that goes around the bed. [VICTIM ] said the conversation got heated, and Ajah got upset; he stood up, grabbed [VICTIM ] by the throat, restricting airflow, and pushed her against the wall on the east side of the bedroom. [VICTIM ] then stated he directed her, still holding her by the throat, and threw her on the bed. [VICTIM ] then started kicking Ajah to get him off of her. Ajah then released [VICTIM ], and [VICTIM ] had a chance to call out for help to [VICTIM ]’s child. According to dispatch, Juvenile [REDACTED] called 911, gave the address, and hung up.
After [VICTIM ] called for [REDACTED], [REDACTED] then ran upstairs and gave the phone to [VICTIM ] so she could record Ajah. Ajah, at this point, was in the master bathroom and master closet, knocking everything down. Ajah then rushed at [VICTIM ], pushing Ajah onto the bed, wrestling with [VICTIM ], and forcibly taking the phone from [VICTIM ] and throwing it down on the tile floor, shattering the front and back glass and causing the phone to bend. At this point, the phone is inoperable. Ajah then rushes [VICTIM ], causing [VICTIM ] to run downstairs.
According to [VICTIM ], she grabbed a knife because she was scared. [VICTIM ] then put the knife down and went back upstairs to confront Ajah to have him leave. Ajah was still in the bathroom at this point and rushed at [VICTIM ] again; [VICTIM ] ran around the other side of the bed thinking he was chasing her; however, according to [VICTIM ], Ajah just walked past her and left the residence at this time.
[VICTIM ] stated Ajah has never lived with her and that he was an ex-boyfriend with no relation to Juvenile [REDACTED]
When I spoke to Juvenile [REDACTED], she stated she heard her mom yelling for help, so she went upstairs and gave her mom the phone.
[SECTION REDACTED BY AGENCY]
I took pictures of the damaged iPhone 13 and the injuries sustained to the victim, [VICTIM ]. [VICTIM ] filled out a witness statement that will be attached.
