From my training, my knowledge and my experience (T.K.E.) this is consistent with a vehicle burning the rubber from the tire while rapidly accelerating in place (commonly referred to as doing burn outs). I parked my patrol vehicle at the parking lot of McDonald’s next to Gata’s and began to walk toward the front parking lot to further investigate. I then observed a vehicle (later determined to be GA tag# [REDACTED]) accelerate quickly to the back of the business. I looked over at the vehicle and observed the vehicle strike a curb before also seeing the vehicle was stuck in place, halfway off the road. I made with a nearby Officer over the radio and requested that he be enroute as I approached the vehicle. Before I left the McDonald’s parking lot, I observed the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Mr. Corey Darden, getting out of the vehicle. He then started to walk away from the vehicle. I called over to him and he appeared to look at me before he started running away from the scene. I advised central dispatch of the foot pursuit as I began to chase Mr. Darden. I gave several loud verbal commands to Mr. Darden to stop as I closed distance toward him, but he did not listen. I chased Mr. Darden from Mcdonalds down the back of Gata’s onto the sidewalk of Weeping Willow Dr. Mr. Darden turned left headed toward Willow Brook Dr. and I continued to chase him when he then turned left towards the tree line behind Gata’s. I lost sight of Mr. Darden as he ran into the woods. I notified officers, who were arriving on scene, to assist, of where Mr. Darden was last seen.Officers on scene quickly set up perimeter around where Mr. Darden was last seen. The tree line was then ed, and Mr. Darden was found hiding, poorly, under a part of a tree. Mr. Darden appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, and I could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. He was also unbalanced on his feet while walking. He was placed into handcuffs and removed from the woods. Mr. Darden would not walk and was carried by myself and other officers on scene. He was ed and secured into the back of Officer Thomas’ (147) patrol vehicle. Mr. Darden was then transported to the liberty count jail, but the jail requested he be medically cleared first as Mr. Darden was presenting like he was having a seizure. Mr. Darden was brought to the hospital (Liberty Regional Medical Center) to be medically cleared. The patrol vehicle was ed before and after transport. Mr. Darden’s handcuffs were also double locked and checked for fit.Due to Mr. Darden being combative and non-compliant he was secured into a patrol vehicle and transported to the Liberty County Jail as quickly as possible. Implied consent was not read, Mr. Darden was not listening and speaking over multiple officers on scene. He had to be physically pulled in the patrol vehicle. He also used his legs to attempt to stop Officer Thomas from closing the patrol vehicle’s door.At the hospital Mr. Darden was brought inside and seen by the doctor. The doctor advised that Mr. Darden was fine, and he was simply pretending to be in medical distress. Mr. Darden was medically cleared and secured into the back of Officer Davila’s (168) patrol vehicle to be transported back to the Liberty County Jail. This patrol vehicle was also checked before and after transport. Mr. Darden was released into the custody of a Liberty County jailer. Mr. Darden was issued citations for the charges listed in this report with a court date of 03-12-2025.The vehicle was ed for open containers and nearby the vehicle, on the path that Mr. Darden fled, I located a black bag with two empty beer cans. The beer cans were cold to the touch and had condensation on them. The bag they were inside also matched another back I observed on the passenger side floorboard of Mr. Darden’s vehicle. The vehicle was towed by Clark’s One Towing.[End of Narrative]. This incident was officially recorded and made publicly available by law enforcement agencies in the state of Georgia.
