Douglas stated the male then stated, “Give me your wallet”. Douglas then pulled out his wallet and gave the money to the male. The male then started walking west bound on Ledo Road towards Murphy Oil located in the Walmart parking lot. Douglas stated he then went back to work (T&S Tire, 948 W Broad Ave, Albany Ga 31701) and told his boss what had happened. Douglas then called 911 and returned to Walmart to meet with Law Enforcement. After speaking with Douglas about the incident, Douglas voluntarily agreed to write a written statement about the incident. Upon further investigation of Surveillance footage from Murphy Oil and Walmart it was discovered that Douglas was never even at Walmart on today’s date during the time he was stating the incident occurred. I utilized the Flock Cameras and the only time in the last 30 days that Douglas’s vehicle was even near Walmart was at approximately 1255 hours on Dawson road. This was the time he was asked to return to the scene due to needing more information from him about the incident.Upon returning to the scene, I had Douglas place his vehicle where he was parked at while he was at Walmart. During this time, there was no movement of vehicles in the area where he stated he was parked at. Due to there being no evidence that Douglas was even at Walmart, Douglas was read his Miranda Rights (See Lt. Glass’s Supplemental for more information). I then placed Douglas under arrest by placing his hands behind his back in handcuffs (DL/TC) and placed in the rear seat of my patrol vehicle. Douglas was then transported to the Lee County Jail where he was turned over to Jail staff for processing. On the way to the Lee County Jail Douglas asked me if he could be honest with me. I stated yes sir. He stated “…. I was not at any of these places; I was actually in the ally way behind T&s tire in Albany where I work when I was robbed today…”I ed Lee County Magistrate Judge Jim Thurman and was able to obtain warrants on Tyler Chase Douglas for the following charges:1.) False Report of a Crime O.C.G.A 16-10-26 (WARRANT# W25-143)2.) False Statements in Writing O.C.G.A 16-10-20 (WARRANT# W25-144)A copy of the warrants were turned over to Officer Bowman with the Lee County Jail.[End of Narrative][NARRATIVE #2 on March 20, 2025]On 03/20/2025 at approximately 1400 hours, I made with asset protection agent, [REDACTED], at 2825 Ledo Road (walmart) in reference to reviewing video footage. I observed on the camera footage of the parking lot where the original complainant, Tyler Douglas, advised he previously parked during the robbery. I observed during the hours between 1100 hours to 1200 hours, there was no visual with Tyler or his vehicle in the parking lot. I also observed video footage of the East entrance to the store where Tyler advised he entered into the store. I did not see Tyler enter the store at any point between 1100 hours and 1200 hours. I obtained a copy of the footage from [REDACTED] on a DVD (property receipt #14816) and attached to this case file. After observing the lack of evidence of Tyler being present in the parking lot during the times he advised, I made with him in the front parking lot. I read Tyler his Miranda warning and he advised he would would answer additional questions about the incident. I advised Tyler that he was not observed on any of the camera footage and that there was no indication that he was ever in the parking lot. He, once again, confirmed his previous statement about being robbed in the parking lot. I then asked him if he was sure that it happened today and he said “I think so”. I asked Tyler if there was another explaination of the events that transpired and that is when Tyler stated that he was not robbed at this location. He advised he was trying to buy a motorcycle from a subject somewhere near Sylvester Road and the “seller” took $300.00 from him. He advised he believed the suspect to lived somewhere near Ledo Road so this was the reason he made the original complaint of the robbery. Having this new information, Dep. Vick took Tyler into custody.[End of Narrative]. This incident was officially recorded and made publicly available by law enforcement agencies in the state of Georgia.
