Discretion is advised.]On 8/7/2026 approximately 2145 hours I was advised by dispatch that the Barnesville PD was out with a male subject at ingles in reference to his child being bit by a dog in Upson County and he needs to get his child so he can take him to the hospital. I was advised that the child was bit at [REDACTED].I made contact with the mother Shayla Cunningham [REDACTED] who advised her son did get bit by a dog at that location and initually told me that she did report the incident. I advised her that I needed to see the child to make sure the kid was ok. Shayla advised she was at Mcdonalds and she would be heading home and hung the phone up on me. I made contact with the dad [REDACTED] and advised him that Shayla did advise the child was bit and she was on the way home.I waited at [200 BLOCK] Cannafax rd where Shayla lived and waited over 30 minutes for her to arrive. I called Shayla back and asked her where she was. Shayla advised she was coming and do not rush her on her only night off. I advised her that I needed to see the child as soon as possible. Shayla and the driver of the vehicle Nicholas Brown [REDACTED] passed the home instead of allowing me to check on the well being of the child. I asked Shayla to tell me the truth and did she report the dog bite incident to Upson County where she finally told me the truth that she did not. I could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her breathe.I had to conduct a traffic stop on Piedmont Rd just off Hwy 18 to get them to stop to check on the child. I made contact with Shayla and the child and allowed [REDACTED] to meet me at the traffic stop and pick the kid up to take him to the hospital. [REDACTED] left with the child and went to CHOA hopital in atlanta. I advised Shayla to step out of the vehicle where I asked her what was her plan with the child. Shayla advised she wanted to get the child food and could not give me a valid reason on why the child never received medical attention or if she was going to get the child medical attention. Shayla did advise she was a registered nurse in which I advised she knew better that the child was obviously hurt and needed medical attention.Shayla was arrested and transported to Lamar detention. Shayla was charged with felony cruelty to children 2nd degree, obstruction, and open container. Deputy Holt arrested the driver Nicholas for dui see supplimental.Upson County did a report on the dog bite and advised the dog was up to date on his shots.
