I was dispatched to [100 BLOCK] Hidden Hills Dr in reference to a shooting. According to dispatch someone named Steven Rozier kicked his child’s mother in the chest and shot at her striking her vehicle. While en route I was informed that the alleged victim had left the scene and went to safety at a nearby gas station.
Upon arrival I observed two b/m standing in the yard. Deputy Marcum and I drew our service weapons and ordered the two men to the ground and detained them. Steven was in possession of a Glock handgun in the small of his back. Both subjects were read their rights. Steven Rozier stated to me that his child’s mother [VICTIM #1] showed up to his house unannounced and tried to come inside of his home. Steven stated that he kicked her and got her out of his house. Steven went and retrieved his shotgun and fired a warning shot in the “air” striking the bottom of his garage door while it was all the way up. Steven stated that he fired a second time in the direction of the vehicle that [VICTIM #1] was in. [WITNESS #1] stated that he had just arrived on scene after these events unfolded. He was not present but his cousin(Steven) did inform him that he had to shoot at someone.
[VICTIM #1] stated that she discovered that Steven had been sleeping with another woman and he was not answering the phone for her to talk to him about it. [VICTIM #1] decided to get her friend [VICTIM #2] to take her to Steven’s house. When [VICTIM #1] arrived she knocked on the door and Steven answered the door and immediately kicked her in the chest. [VICTIM #1] stated that she flew backwards to the ground. [VICTIM #1] got up and knocked on the door again and looked inside of the house. [VICTIM #1] stated that she saw Steven coming to the door with a long gun therefore she ran to her friends car. That is when Steven shot at her twice. The second shot struck her friends car causing damage to the hood and lights.
Deputy Langston took statements from [VICTIM #1] and her friend [VICTIM #2]. He also took the photos of the damaged vehicle. I took photos of the shell casing in the garage. I also retrieved the shotgun that was used to shoot at the victim with Steven’s permission. Steven stated that he picked the shotgun shell up that was outside of the garage and placed it on the table. Steven knew who the victim was, it was not a stranger. His life was not in danger nor in danger of receiving great bodily harm. Steven shots struck the victim’s car placing both [VICTIM #1] and [VICTIM #2] life on the line. Steven was charged with Aggravated Assault X2. Steven was arrested and taken to the Jones County LEC. The weapons were checked through GCIC and were not listed as stolen. Both firearms were taken to the Jones County LEC and placed into the evidence lockers along with the two empty shells. Steven was transported to the Jones County LEC, and [WITNESS #1] was released without incident.
