On August 14, 2024
at 1833 hours I, Ofc. Wojtal, was dispatched to [700 BLOCK] N. Houston Rd., in reference to an assault. While enroute to this location, dispatch advised the involved parties had moved to [100 BLOCK] Lisa Dr., in front of apartment [REDACTED]. Dispatch advised the males had possibly been chasing each other with a knife, and a code response was given by supervisors. Upon arriving on scene, myself and Ofc. Jackson made with the two males, later identified as Casmarah Mimbs and [VICTIM ]. Ofc. Jackson was able to pick up a backpack and a knife from the ground and secured it away from both subjects at his patrol vehicle.
I first spoke to Mr. Mimbs, he advised he had been at the LoLo store on the north west corner of the intersection at N. Houston Rd. and Green St., when he was called across the road to the BiLo mart by Mr. [VICTIM ]. Mr. Mimbs advised Mr. [VICTIM ] and he had a verbal altercation in the parking lot. Mr. Mimbs advised Mr. [VICTIM ] stated he was going to put a charge on him and claim Mr. Mimbs robbed him while calling 911. Mr. Mimbs originally stated he had been carrying a knife in his hand and put it on the ground when walking up to Mr. [VICTIM ], then stated he had the knife in his pocket and it fell out as he was setting his backpack down to possibly fight Mr. [VICTIM ]. Mr. Mimbs stated after the knife came out of his possession, Mr. [VICTIM ] picked it up and his backpack he had set down as Mr. Mimbs backed away from him. Mr. Mimbs advised Mr. [VICTIM ] then began calling him derogatory names while holding up his backpack as Mr. Mimbs began to run away, and stated Mr. [VICTIM ] gave chase on foot toward the apartments. Mr. Mimbs stated after he and Mr. [VICTIM ] left from this location, they stopped and sat together at an unknown apartment on the back porch for several minutes.
I then spoke to Mr. [VICTIM ], he advised he was told by someone in the BiLo that Mr. Mimbs was looking for him to do him some sort of harm. Mr. [VICTIM ] advised after he exited the store, Mr. Mimbs called out to him from across the road. Mr. [VICTIM ] advised he had stayed around his vehicle in the parking lot when Mr. Mimbs came across the road and the two men began to verbally argue. Mr. [VICTIM ] advised during this, Mr. Mimbs stated something about causing him harm, then reached to pull out the knife. Mr. [VICTIM ] advised while either pulling the knife out, or attempting to use it in an offensive manner, Mr. Mimbs dropped the knife on the ground. Mr. [VICTIM ] advised when this occurred, he kicked at the knife in an attempt to get it away from Mr. Mimbs, and believed he possibly kicked Mr. Mimbs. Mr. [VICTIM ] advised Mr. Mimbs then backed away as he had already dropped his backpack and the knife, so he had picked up both items and chased after Mr. Mimbs while calling 911 and keeping eyes on him. Mr. [VICTIM ] advised while chasing Mr. Mimbs, he attempted to go into multiple different apartments to get away from him, until they finally stopped in front of apartment [REDACTED], where Mr. [VICTIM ] knew Mr. Mimbs knew someone.
Ofc. Domanski and Sgt. Del Giomo were able to watch security camera footage from the incident location, and both stated in the footage, Mr. Mimbs can be seen having the altercation with Mr. [VICTIM ] verbally, then pulling the knife out of either his pocket or tucked in his pants. Both officers advised due to the video quality, it was not able to be clearly seen where the knife was pulled from. They then advised it appeared Mr. Mimbs had dropped the knife and his backpack and ran from the location, as stated by Mr. [VICTIM ].
Mr. Mimbs was then taken into custody for aggravated assault- family violence, as both he and Mr. [VICTIM ] stated that both men had lived together in apartment [REDACTED] a couple years ago. The knife was collected and secured into my patrol vehicle, and Mr. Mimbs was transported to police headquarters for processing. The knife was put into evidence under this case number. Mr. [VICTIM ] was issued a case number and was advised how to obtain a copy of this report. I will be seeking a warrant on Mr. Mimbs next available date.
