On Tuesday 19 of November, 2024
at approximately 0755 hours SERGEANT JR ANDERSON with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol Division responded to the area of Highway 53 and box # [7000 BLOCK] in reference to a vehicle striking a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer’s vehicle.
Upon arrival, SGT. ANDERSON met with SERGEANT E. SHELLY, SGT. SHELLY advised he was finishing up the morning traffic detail at the entrance to the Sonoraville Recreation Department when the suspect’s red in color Volvo XC70 driver’s side rear view mirror struck his driver’s door. SGT. SHELLY stated that he entered his marked patrol unit and was able to get the red in color Volvo stopped.
SGT. ANDERSON observed damage to the driver’s rearview mirror, SGT. ANDERSON asked the driver identified as CATON NATHANIEL ELLISON to exit the vehicle, Mr. ELLISON exited the vehicle. SGT. ANDERSON asked Mr. ELLISON what happened. Mr. ELLISON stated that he was taking a drink and his vehicle struck the patrol vehicle. SGT. ANDERSON asked Mr. ELLISON if he knew he had struck the patrol vehicle. Mr. ELLISON stated that he knew he struck the patrol vehicle but continued on because he did not want to be late for work. SGT. ANDERSON asked Mr. ELLISON if he observed SGT. SHELLY in his bright fluorescent colored rain gear, Mr. ELLISON stated that he did observed him.
SGT. ANDERSON photographed both vehicles. SGT. ANDERSON placed Mr. ELLISON under arrest without incident, and transported to the Gordon County Jail and exchanged custody with the jail staff without incident.
SGT. ANDERSON was issued three Uniform Traffic Citation: 1- Hit and Run Citation # 73842. 2- Failure to Maintain Lane Citation # 73843. 3- Too Fast For Conditions Citation # 73844.
