TIFT COUNTY, Ga. – A Tifton woman has been arrested after police discovered a fetus in a dumpster at an apartment complex early Thursday morning.

According to the Tifton Police Department, emergency crews were called to the Brookfield Mews Apartments around 6 a.m. in response to a report of an unconscious woman who was bleeding. The woman, identified as 24-year-old Selena Maria Chandler Scott, was suffering from a miscarriage and was transported to Tift Regional Medical Center for treatment.

During the emergency response, a witness reported seeing Scott place a fetus inside a bag and discard it in a dumpster nearby. Officers recovered the remains and launched an immediate investigation.

Scott has been charged with concealing the death of another person and unlawful disposal of a body. She is currently being held at the Tift County Sheriff’s Office, pending her first court appearance.

The remains have been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for autopsy. Authorities say additional information, including the gestational age of the fetus, will be released following the autopsy results.
