FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – A Sandy Springs man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly killing his fiancée’s dog in a violent attack that was captured on home surveillance footage.

Police arrested 42-year-old Joshua Allen on Feb. 13 after his fiancée, while driving home, accessed a live stream of their home security cameras and witnessed the brutal incident unfold.

According to Sandy Springs Police Sgt. Leon Millholland, “She saw on her phone through the video surveillance system him picking up a dog by the neck, strangling the dog, and then holding the dog down on the porch and stabbing it to death.”

Investigators say the footage also shows Allen attempting to clean the crime scene by pouring bleach over the deck to remove traces of blood. Additionally, he was recorded making threats against his fiancée while speaking to someone on the phone. “He makes the statement to the effect that if she calls the cops, he’s gonna hit her in the head with his hatchet,” Sgt. Millholland said.

Police were alerted immediately, and officers arrived at the residence, arresting Allen as he tried to leave. The dog’s remains were later found inside a trash bag in his vehicle.

Authorities revealed that Allen has a prior history of violence and was on probation at the time of the attack. He is now facing charges of aggravated cruelty to animals, tampering with evidence, and making terroristic threats.

The case has sparked discussions about the connection between animal abuse and domestic violence, with Georgia lawmakers considering legislation to allow judges to include pets in protective orders for domestic violence victims.

Allen remains in custody at the Fulton County Jail without bond as the investigation continues.
