BIBB COUNTY, Ga. – A 22-year-old woman is facing multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, after authorities say a newborn baby was discovered inside a trash bag at a Macon home.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Alaynah Marie Rappuhn arrived at Piedmont Macon Hospital around 1 p.m. on Monday with severe bleeding. Deputies stated her boyfriend had brought her to the hospital after noticing her condition at their residence on Payton Street.

Before leaving for the hospital, investigators say Rappuhn had placed a trash bag on the back porch. Later, when her boyfriend returned to the home to collect personal items, he reportedly heard sounds coming from the bag. Upon checking, he found a baby boy wrapped in towels.

The infant was rushed to the hospital for treatment and is in stable but critical condition, officials confirmed.

Authorities believe Rappuhn gave birth to the baby around 4:30 a.m. and placed the child in the trash bag hours later. She reportedly never informed her boyfriend about the pregnancy or the birth and failed to notify hospital staff about the newborn when she arrived for treatment.

Rappuhn was taken into custody on Tuesday after being discharged from the hospital. She was booked into the Bibb County Detention Center and faces charges of criminal attempt to commit felony murder, first-degree cruelty to children, and reckless abandonment.

Her bond has been denied.
