TOOMBS COUNTY, Ga. – On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) arrested Lyons Police Officer Dustin Matejcik, 30, of Glennville, Georgia, on felony charges of Violation of Oath of Office and Theft by Taking.
The investigation began when Lyons Police Chief Wesley Walker requested the GBI’s assistance with a theft inquiry involving Officer Matejcik. The incident in question occurred on March 22, 2025, during a traffic stop in which Matejcik, assisting another officer, detained an individual. The arrested person asked for their personal belongings to be handed over to their employer, who was supposed to pick them up from the scene. While the other officer transported the individual to jail, Matejcik remained at the scene.
On March 25, 2025, the Lyons Police Department was contacted to recover the items, but they could not be located. The investigation found that no one arrived to collect the belongings, and Matejcik failed to turn over the items – including money, a passport, and keys – to evidence as required.
Matejcik was arrested and booked into the Toombs County Detention Center.
The case will be forwarded to the Middle Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office once the investigation is completed for prosecution.
