GORDON COUNTY, Ga. – Around 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, deputy sheriffs responded to a disturbance in progress at a local motel near US Highway 41 and Interstate 75 in Calhoun.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered a man armed with a knife who was behaving violently and refused to drop his weapon. The suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Ezekiel Cooper of Calhoun, assaulted the deputies and attempted to barricade himself inside a room. After a struggle, during which Cooper forcefully resisted arrest, deputies were able to subdue him.
During the altercation, one deputy suffered a bite from Cooper, while another sustained a cut from broken glass. Both deputies were treated at a hospital and later released, along with Cooper, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Cooper was taken into custody and is facing multiple charges, including Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement Officers and felony Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers.
