GILMER COUNTY, Ga. – Nearly four decades after human remains were discovered in North Georgia, investigators have finally identified the victim as David Clary, thanks to advancements in forensic genetic technology.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), working in partnership with the FBI, the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC), and Othram, Inc., confirmed the identity of the remains found in August 1986. The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office initially requested assistance from the GBI to help solve the long-standing mystery.
Clary, originally from the Charlotte, North Carolina area, was known to travel frequently between Metro Atlanta and North Georgia. His last confirmed whereabouts were in Gwinnett County before his disappearance.
While this identification marks a major breakthrough in the case, Clary’s homicide remains unsolved. Investigators are now asking the public for help in uncovering the circumstances surrounding his death.
