FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – FX has officially renewed its breakout comedy English Teacher for a second season, despite ongoing sexual assault allegations against the show’s creator and lead actor, Brian Jordan Alvarez. Alvarez has denied the accusations, claiming all interactions were consensual.

The allegations first surfaced in August 2024 when Alvarez’s former friend and The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo co-star, Jon Ebeling, made claims via Instagram. Ebeling later expanded on the accusations in a December article published by New York Magazine.

English Teacher, which premiered on FX and Hulu in September 2024, stars Alvarez alongside Carmen Christopher, Enrico Colantoni, Stephanie Koenig, and Sean Patton. The New York Magazine article also included allegations against Koenig, accusing her of enabling the misconduct during the filming of the 2016 web series.

In response to the controversy, an FX spokesperson stated, “We reviewed the allegations presented to us by another media outlet prior to the show’s launch. Mr. Ebeling never contacted us with any concerns. We will have no further comment at this time.”

FX Entertainment President Nick Grad defended the renewal, calling English Teacher “one of the most critically acclaimed new shows of 2024.” He praised the team’s “creative excellence” and confirmed production for the new season is moving forward.

The series follows Evan Marquez, a high school teacher navigating the personal, political, and professional complexities of his job in Austin, Texas. Although set in Texas, the first season was filmed in Atlanta, and it remains unclear if season two will follow suit. The show is produced by Jake Bender, Kathryn Dean, Zach Dunn, Dave King, Jonathan Krisel, and Paul Simms.

Season two is expected to premiere in late 2025.

Season one was filmed in early 2024 in Atlanta, but officials have not announced if season two, scheduled to release later in 2025, will also be filmed in Fulton County."
