FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – Carolyn Freeman, widely known as the “Birdlady” among Atlanta Falcons fans, has been indicted by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis on charges of theft by deception. Freeman, 65, is accused of scamming Kansas City Chiefs fans out of more than $14,000 for tailgate events that never occurred.

According to the indictment, Freeman collected $14,155 from around 300 Chiefs fans, promising a fully catered tailgate event before a game on September 22, 2024. However, authorities say the event never took place, and those who paid were never refunded.

Freeman was arrested at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on November 3, 2024, during a Falcons vs. Cowboys game. She has denied any fraudulent intent, claiming unforeseen circumstances, including hospital visits and vehicle issues, prevented her from hosting the tailgate.

This isn’t the first time Freeman has faced similar allegations. In 2017, Seattle Seahawks fans accused her of organizing a fraudulent tailgate, and in 2024, Chiefs fans claimed she falsely advertised a Super Bowl trip package.

Freeman, who also runs a nonprofit called Birdlady Cares Inc., has been a well-known figure in the Falcons fan community. She was once featured on a Bud Light NFL Super Fan campaign and an Equifax-sponsored billboard inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium—though Equifax has since removed her image following the allegations.

After posting a $2,500 bond, Freeman was released from jail on November 8, 2024. She is scheduled to appear in Fulton County Superior Court on April 29, 2025.
