COBB COUNTY, Ga. – The Atlanta Braves confirmed Monday, March 3, 2025, that catcher Sean Murphy, 24, will be out for at least four to six weeks after suffering a fractured rib.
Murphy, who joined the Braves via a trade with the Oakland Athletics in December 2023, earned All-Star recognition in 2023 but battled an abdominal strain during the season opener that impacted his overall performance.
With Murphy sidelined, catcher Drake Baldwin is expected to take over for the remainder of spring training, which began February 22 and runs through March 25, as well as the early part of the regular season.
Despite the setback, the Braves have had a strong showing in recent spring matchups—defeating the Miami Marlins 7–2 on Friday, tying 1–1 with the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, and dominating the New York Yankees 11–1 on Sunday. Upcoming games will see them take on the Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Twins, and a rematch with the Marlins.
Fans can tune into the action through YouTubeTV, PeachtreeTV (CW Network), DirecTV, and other platforms. Atlanta-based Gray Media is set to simulcast 15 regular season games and 10 spring training matchups.
