GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – After spending four months in jail and losing his career, former bounty hunter Omar Lee has been acquitted of felony charges, including impersonating a police officer, following a two-year legal battle.

A Gwinnett County jury found Lee not guilty on Friday of felony impersonation of an officer, first-degree burglary, and criminal trespass charges, bringing an end to a case that began in November 2022 during a routine fugitive search.

The charges stemmed from an incident in which Lee and another man, working as bounty hunters for a Philadelphia bonding company, attempted to locate a fugitive at a Lawrenceville-area home. Surveillance footage showed Lee wearing a vest and badge at the front door of a residence on Tab Roberts Road. A woman inside, who lived with her disabled mother and six young children, called 911, believing the men were unlawfully entering her home with a fake search warrant.

Lee maintained that he was lawfully performing his job and had probable cause to be at the residence. However, he was arrested on charges of felony impersonation of an officer and was initially held without bond.

The legal ordeal not only cost Lee his freedom for several months but also derailed his career. Following his arrest, he lost his job and struggled to find work. Now acquitted, he has decided not to return to bounty hunting and instead plans to go back to school.

The case against the second man arrested in the incident remains pending.
