Discretion is advised.]On 2-16-2025I heard a Hit-and-Run accident come over the radio and Deputy Kelley was dispatched to it. The location of the accident was on Thornton Rd and Switch Way. It was discovered that the suspect vehicle was a black Toyota Corolla (GA TAG- [REDACTED]) and the registered owner, James Matiak, had a felony arrest warrant out for his arrest. I was able to look at the warrant and it was for violation of probation (felony). I also checked Flock and it placed the Toyota in the area at the time of the accident.I ended up texting James from my county issued cell phone asking him to call me in reference to the accident. James called me and we spoke about what had occurred. James advised he did leave the scene and did not think it was that much damage. I advised James I needed to meet with him to take pictures of his vehicle and get his information. I asked James if he would meet me at the Pilot gas station on Liberty Rd (VIlla Rica, GA) he agreed to. A short time later I met with James at the Pilot and began to speak with him. I spoke to him briefly and took pictures of the damage. I then placed James into handcuffs and advised he was under arrest for hit-and-run and his active warrant through Paulding County. Deputy McCusker was on scene with me and I turned him over to Deputy McCusker who transported him to the Douglas Count Jail.I remained on scene until his relative arrived on scene and took possession of his vehicle.[End of Narrative].
