On Thursday, October 10, 2024, at approximately 0230 hours, I was dispatched to Red Carpet Inn, 1455 S. Hwy 29, in reference to an assault.
Upon arrival I encountered a white male, identified as Michael Yawn, sitting on steps near the office with uncontrolled bleeding coming from his nose and swelling and edema to his left eye. The swelling was to the extent that his left eye was closed and unable to be opened. I asked Yawn what happened and he stated that two men “jumped him”. Yawn stated a white male, Preston Williams, initially stated hitting on hit. Yawn stated he was “able to get the best of him” and pinned him on the ground. Yawn stated he asked Williams why he was hitting him and Yawn stated Williams made the statement, “it’s because of your uncle”. Yawn stated he went into the hotel room that he and his uncle, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] were staying in and he struck [REDACTED BY AGENCY] in the face. Yawn stated he exited the room and Williams attacked him again. Yawn then stated William’s son-in-law, [WITNESS #1], arrived and struck him also.
I went to the west side of the hotel and encountered a white male without a shirt, blood on his left hand and a small contusion above his left eye. I placed the male in handcuffs and identified him as Preston Williams. I asked Williams to describe the incident to which he stated that he and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] were standing by a vehicle in the parking lot. Williams stated that Yawn exited the room that he and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] were staying in and walked toward them. Williams stated Yawn “sucker punched” [REDACTED BY AGENCY] in the face. Williams stated he then defended [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and began fighting Yawn. Williams stated he ended up on the ground with Yawn on top of him. Williams stated bystanders broke them up and Williams was able to get back on his feet. Williams stated Yawn charged him again and they began fighting again. Williams stated he ended up on the ground again with Yawn on top of him. Williams stated [WITNESS #1] arrived and pulled Yawn off of him. Williams stated Yawn then walked away.
I interviewed [WITNESS #1] who stated he was in his hotel room and heard yelling and screaming coming from outside in the parking lot. [WITNESS #1] stated he saw Williams and Yawn fighting. [WITNESS #1] stated he ran down from the second floor and broke up the fight. [WITNESS #1] stated Yawn then walked away.
I interviewed [REDACTED BY AGENCY] who stated he and Williams were standing by a vehicle in the hotel parking talking when Yawn approached them. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated Yawn punched him in the face. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated Williams came to his defense and began pushing Yawn away. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated Williams and Yawn then began fighting. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated the fight was broken up and then Yawn re-engaged Williams and the fight began again. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated [WITNESS #1] arrived and helped break them up the second time. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated Yawn then walked away.
I observed Yawn to have a significant injury to his left eye to including swelling to the point of closure, a bloody nose. I observed Williams to have a small contusion to his left eyebrow. I observed [VICTIM #1] to have bruising next to his right eye.
Yawn was transported to Piedmont/Newnan Hospital.
Williams was arrested for violating OCGA 16-5-24 (Aggravated Battery) and OCGA 16-11-32 (Affray).
Photographs of all injuries were obtained and uploaded to evidence.com.
At approximately 0530 hours I spoke with RN [REDACTED] at Piedmont/Newnan Hospital who stated that Yawn is being transferred to Grady Hospital for further treatment for multiple facial fractures and bleeding behind the left eye.
I will obtain a warrant for Yawn at a later time.
