On 09/09/2024 at approximately 2003hrs, Coweta County 911 dispatched a call for service at 53 Hollz Pkwy. (Newnan Dodge Dealership) in reference to a male in the store making threats to employees. Before my arrival, Coweta County 911 advised a male was in the store attempting to steal a “Durango Hellcat”.
Upon my arrival, Sgt. Thompson and D/S Williford were on scene. Sgt. Thompson began to speak with two males on scene and after a short time, I walked inside the store and began speaking with store employees.
Once I walked into the store, I began to speak with multiple employees. [WITNESS #1] began speaking with me and advised that the male in the white hat, who was later identified as Desmond Granger, was making threats. I then asked who was the salesman who helped the males and [VICTIM #1] walked up and advised he was the one who was helping them.
I asked [VICTIM #1] if he could tell me, in detail, what occurred. [VICTIM #1] advised that both Desmond and his brother, who was later identified as Osei Mattocks, came into the store at approximately 1915-1930hrs wanting to buy a car. [VICTIM #1] advised he spoke with Desmond about buying a car and asked for his drivers license to start paperwork. [VICTIM #1] advised Desmond gave him an identification card and a paper copy. [VICTIM #1] advised he advised Desmond he would need a drivers license in order to purchase a vehicle.
[VICTIM #1] then advised Osei advised he would fill out the paperwork in his name for the vehicle. [VICTIM #1] advised after the paperwork was filled out, they began to run his credit and check with the banks for the loan. After a moment, it appeared as if they were not going to be able to purchase a vehicle. [VICTIM #1] advised once they noticed they were not going to be able to purchase a vehicle, Desmond began making threats.
[WITNESS #1] advised he was standing in the show room with [VICTIM #1] and the brothers, Osei and Desmond, leaning against the counter with his hand in his pocket. [WITNESS #1] advised Desmond approached him and asked him if he had a gun in his pocket, advising Desmond was reaching around his waist line acting as if he had a gun, stating he wasn’t the only one who had one.
I then began speaking with [VICTIM #2], an employee. [VICTIM #2] advised while Desmond was in the show room, he wanted to walked the receptionist out to her car, so she did not have to go by herself. [VICTIM #2] advised once he walked her out to her car, Desmond approached him with a set of keys, asking where the vehicle was at. [VICTIM #2] advised he did not believe anyone would have given Desmond a set of keys. [VICTIM #2] advised he was able to get the keys from Desmond, to try and locate the vehicle on the lot.
[VICTIM #2] advised once he realized what was going on, he began to walk back inside. [VICTIM #2] advised while he was trying to walk in, Desmond tried getting the keys back from him but he refused to give them back. [VICTIM #2] advised Desmond pushed him and reared back as if he was going to punch him.
[VICTIM #2] advised once he walked back into the store, Desmond grabbed a chair and picked it up, threating to throw it at him. [VICTIM #2] advised Desmond then put the chair down and grabbed a fire extinguisher from the wall and walked outside. I asked [VICTIM #2] if he wanted to press charges against Desmond and he advised he did.
I then spoke with the store manager, [WITNESS #2]. [WITNESS #2] advised Desmond took two sets of car keys from the store. [WITNESS #2] advised [VICTIM #2] was able to retrieve the hellcat keys from Desmond but a set of keys were missing for a Ram pickup truck that he observed Desmond took. I asked [WITNESS #2] if I could see surveillance footage of the incident.
[WITNESS #2] pulled up the video surveillance footage and was only able to show what occurred in the show room. No other surveillance footage captured any other incidents outside. [WITNESS #2] showed the incident were Desmond walked into the show room, right after [VICTIM #2] walked in. I observed [VICTIM #2] walked into the door and Desmond soon followed after. I observed Desmond picking up a chair and it appeared as if he wanted to throw it. I then observed Desmond sit the chair back down and grab the fire extinguisher off the wall. I then observed Desmond walk out of the store.
I advised [WITNESS #2] that I would try and retrieve the fire extinguisher and keys. I then walked back outside and tired speaking with Desmond. I asked Desmond about the fire extinguisher and he asked if he was going to jail. I advised Desmond he was under arrest and I placed handcuffs to the rear. I conducted a search incident to arrest and walked Desmond to my patrol car.
Sgt. Thompson and D/S Williford placed Osei in handcuffs and advised he was being detained. Once D/S Williford placed Osei in his patrol car, we spoke for a brief moment. Sgt. Thompson gave me the keys to Ram pickup truck and advised Osei had them in his pocket and hand once he arrived. Sgt. Thompson also advised once he arrived, Osei and Desmond were attempting to leave the dealership but he was able to block them in.
Sgt. Thompson advised Osei vehicle smelled of marijuana and they would be conducting a search of it. Sgt. Thompson also advised the fire extinguisher was in the front seat. Once all official statement form were collected, I asked D/S Williford to stay with the vehicle and conduct an inventory and wait for the wrecker. D/S Williford advised he would. During that time, D/S Williford advised he observed Osei with the Ram pickup truck keys in his hand, attempting to hide them away from him and Sgt. Thompson.
