On 4/24/2024, at 7:27 p.m., I contacted [VICTIM #1] in reference to an accident that occurred on Hickory Flat, Highway 140 and Sugar Pike Road.
[VICTIM #1] stated the following. [VICTIM #2], [VICTIM #1]’s mom, was in a car accident at Highway 140 and Sugar Pike Road. A male driving a Ford F-150 hit the back bumper of his mom’s blue 2017 Ford Explorer, Georgia license plate [REDACTED]. [VICTIM #2] called [VICTIM #1] for translation. The male told [VICTIM #1] over the phone not to call the police. The male was going to take care of the accident. [VICTIM #1] asked the male for his insurance information. The male told him again not to call the police. The male told [VICTIM #1] he had just given his mom the card. [VICTIM #1] confirmed with his mom. [VICTIM #2] told [VICTIM #1] that the male had given her his information. [VICTIM #1], at the time, was working, so he assumed the male worked it out with his mom.
Later in the day, [VICTIM #1] followed up with his mom. He discovered that the male gave [VICTIM #2] his business card, not the insurance information. [VICTIM #1] attempted to call the male, but he did not answer his calls. [VICTIM #1] also called the business’s phone number, Total Pro Roofing. [VICTIM #1] was able to contact the company manager, [REDACTED]. [VICTIM #1] was able to reach the male after calling the company. The male told [VICTIM #1], “Fuk you. Fuk this. I am going to blow your head off. I’m not going to pay sh*t. Ya’ll ruined my day.” The only information [VICTIM #1] was trying to acquire was the male’s insurance. [VICTIM #1] provided me with the male’s phone number. The male was identified as Matthew Jones.
After speaking with [VICTIM #1], I called Matthew and Total Pro Roofing. Matthew did not answer. I left a brief voicemail to Total Pro Roofing. I redialed Matthew’s cell after the voicemail. Matthew did answer this time. Matthew stated the following. “She backed into me. There wasn’t really an accident.” Matthew felt that he was being accused of an accident. Matthew was upset that they had called his work and had him fired.
I told Matthew they wanted his insurance information so they could file an accident report through the insurance. Matthew denied there being an accident. Matthew called the female driver a liar. There was no damage to Matthew’s truck or an accident. The female driver backed up and almost hit Matthew’s truck. They told Matthew he owed them $1,700.00. Matthew didn’t want to speak any further without an attorney. Matthew believes they are scammers and feels harassed by them calling him. Matthew told me again. There was no accident. She had her car put in reverse and almost hit his truck.
After speaking with Matthew, I called [VICTIM #1]. I asked [VICTIM #1] if I could talk to his mom. I asked [VICTIM #2] what happened. [VICTIM #2] stated the following. A person hit the rear bumper of her vehicle. [VICTIM #2] asked the driver for his insurance. [VICTIM #2] called [VICTIM #1] for translation. [VICTIM #2] assumed Matthew provided her with the information needed. I gathered [VICTIM #1] and [VICTIM #2]’s information. I told [VICTIM #1] he would need to complete an SR-13 form and turn it into the Department of Motor Vehicles with a report copy. I provided [VICTIM #1] with a case number and explained how to acquire a copy of the report.
I returned to service.
