On July 15th, 2024
, I was dispatched to the location of [300 BLOCK] Crabapple Cir in reference to a verbal dispute that had escalated to one of the parties using “mace”.
Upon my arrival I attempted to the residents during which time Lt Green observed movement coming from the rear of the location. It was at this time I ed [VICTIM ], who had a firearm in his hand, and [VICTIM ]. Mr. [VICTIM ] was given clear instructions to place the weapon on the ground and drop down to his knees all while placing his hands behind his back. Mr. [VICTIM ] complied, and it was at this moment I secured him into a pair of double locked handcuffs, finger checked for fit, before securing him into the rear of my marked unit, which had been inspected prior to shift, while Lt Green secured the weapon and Ms. [VICTIM ].
Once secured both Ms. [VICTIM ] and Mr. [VICTIM ] stated that another male and female were inside the with the male, later identified as Mr. William Wright, armed with either a firearm or a knife. The other female, identified as Ms. [VICTIM ], was observed exiting the residence from the front door and stated that her and Mr. Wright had been involved in a physical altercation in the upstairs living room. She went on to state that the two of them are romantically involved, and that he had been living with her since February, when they became involved in a verbal argument over some comments, she made on her phone that Mr. Wright had found.
Ms. [VICTIM ] went on to state that after he found the private comments Mr. Wright became verbally upset before striking her with a closed fist to the left side of her face, leaving slight cuts and bruises to her lips, at which time Ms. [VICTIM ] then began defending herself and Mr. Wright continued to physically assault her. Ms. [VICTIM ] advised that she was able to physically get on top of Mr. Wright, to stop him, when both Mr. [VICTIM ] and Ms. [VICTIM ] arrived upstairs and physically separated them with Mr. [VICTIM ] taking physical hold of Mr. Wright. As Ms. [VICTIM ] came downstairs, trying to stay separated, Mr. Wright continued to pursue her and grabbed a green serrated bread knife from the main kitchen dishwasher before approaching Ms. [VICTIM ].
She then ran from the downstairs kitchen towards the rear door and as she attempted to close it Mr. Wright tried to follow at which time Ms. [VICTIM ] had to physically take hold of the doorknob to prevent him from opening it. Mr. Wright then took the blade and began violently sliding it through the crack of the door causing a small puncture to wound Ms. [VICTIM ]’s left hand, before Ms. [VICTIM ] finally released the door and ran towards the rear alley. Mr. [VICTIM ] then managed to get behind Mr. Wright and physically restrain him, causing him to knock over his grill, and bring him back into the downstairs living room. Mr. [VICTIM ] then released him onto the couch as Ms. [VICTIM ] came back inside the residence, at which point Mr. Wright then grabbed his can of Pepper Spray and began spraying towards Ms. [VICTIM ] as she fled to the rear door. Mr. [VICTIM ] then grabbed Mr. Wright again and took possession of the pepper spray, getting struck with the chemical in the process.
Mr. [VICTIM ] attempted to further deescalate the situation and began advising Mr. Wright to stop and leave Ms. [VICTIM ] alone when he, and Ms. [VICTIM ], heard Mr. Wright state “where’s my 9?” before saying “I’m going to kill her” before quickly running upstairs. Mr. [VICTIM ] was unsure if Mr. Wright had a weapon with him and as such drew his pistol and had both he and Ms. [VICTIM ] exit the residence through the rear door until Police arrived at which time Ms. [VICTIM ] had re-entered the and followed behind Mr. Wright and returned with a black backpack she placed in the kitchen before rushing back upstairs.
More Officers arrived at the scene and secured the exterior of the property as Ms. [VICTIM ] was uncertain if Mr. Wright still had a weapon in his possession. Mr. Wright was given multiple verbal commands to exit the property with his hands visible, but Officers received no response. Sgt Gonzales and I then began clearing the interior of the residence giving Mr. Wright multiple verbal commands to reveal himself to us, no response was given. As we made our approach the to main upstairs bedroom, with service weapons drawn and at the ready, a final verbal command was given to Mr. Wright to exit the bedroom with his hands raised. I observed Mr. Wright exit the room before being secured into a pair of handcuffs by Sgt Gonzales before being brought outside and placed into the rear of a nearby patrol vehicle.
After reading Mr. Wright his Miranda Rights he consented to speak with me without a lawyer present and originally stated that no physical altercation had taken place and that everything was strictly verbal. When I asked him later, after speaking with all the other parties, he confessed that he had used both a green serrated bread knife and personal pepper spray as a means to try and “scare” Ms. [VICTIM ] as he was upset, however he had no intention of harming anyone nor did he believed he had actually injured anyone.
Mr. [VICTIM ], Ms. [VICTIM ] and Ms. [VICTIM ] all advised me that they were all in fear for their lives, their safety and their overall well-being due to Mr. Wright’s behavior and verbal threats made to “kill” Ms. [VICTIM ].
Based on the testimony given, the injuries documented, and the weapons retrieved, the knife later being found in the same bedroom Mr. Wright exited from, wedged between the mattress and box spring, I identified him as the primary aggressor and placed him under arrest for the charges of Terroristic Threats (x3), Aggravated Assault DVA, Battery DVA and Simple Assault.
Mr. Wright was then transported by me to MMC where he was medically cleared and later transported to CCDC to be booked by Sheriff Deputies without incident.
EMS was offered to all parties all of whom denied EMS to the scene with photos being taken and added to this report with the on duty supervisor and Sergeant being notified and responded to the location.
This concludes my report with nothing significant found within my rear passenger seat after transport.
