On Sunday, July 28, 2024
, at 04:36 hours I was dispatched to a domestic dispute involving a handgun and knife at [300 BLOCK] 1/2 Main Street Apt. [REDACTED], Garden City, Chatham County, Georgia, 31408.
When I arrived on scene I was flagged down on Main Street by the complainant, [VICTIM ]. [VICTIM ] advised he had just finished cleaning his residence and was winding down before getting ready to go to church. [VICTIM ] advised his wife, Willa Harris, had been drinking alcohol and doing cocaine all night. [VICTIM ] advised Willa came inside the residence and turned all the lights on and was acting aggressive towards him. [VICTIM ] advised Willa went back out onto the porch. [VICTIM ] stated he went outside to see what the matter with Willa was when she grabbed a long black fixed blade kitchen knife from her purse. [VICTIM ] advised she was holding the knife in an aggressive manner, and she would not put it down. [VICTIM ] advised she eventually put it down and grabbed her 9mm handgun from her purse and pointed it at him. [VICTIM ] advised he did not know what she was going to do and became fearful she was going to shoot him. [VICTIM ] advised he immediately went out to the road and called the police.
After taking a statement from [VICTIM ], I approached the apartment building and observed Willa sitting down on the porch in front of the apartment unit. Willa was moving a kitchen knife and handgun around by her feet. Willa complied with officers’ commands. I approached Willa and observed by her feet a large kitchen knife and handgun. I confiscated the items to make the scene safe and took an initial statement from Willa.
Willa advised she was drinking alcohol and consuming powder cocaine on the porch. Willa advised she was being bothered by [VICTIM ] asking her questions. Willa advised she had the knife and handgun because of demons. I asked Willa if she had any narcotics remaining in her possession. Willa reached into her purse and produced a clear plastic bag containing a white powdery substance and a straw. Willa advised the white powdery substance was cocaine. I placed Willa in hand restraints behind her back, checked for fit, and double locked. I placed Willa in the back of my patrol vehicle.
I spoke again with [VICTIM ] who advised he has been married to Willa since 2015. [VICTIM ] was visibly upset. [VICTIM ] advised she has never done anything like this to him before. [VICTIM ] advised he and Willa have had arguments over the course of the marriage, but nothing has become violent between the two in the past.
I read Willa her Miranda Warning. Willa agreed to answer my questions. Willa advised she grabbed the knife from her purse because she did not want to be disturbed by [VICTIM ]. Willa advised [VICTIM ] would not stop asking her questions. Willa advised she put the knife down and grabbed her handgun and pointed it at the front door and then up at the sky. Willa advised the handgun and knife both belong to her, and she keeps them in her purse.
The handgun when cleared was found with a bullet in the chamber. The handgun was run in GCIC/NCIC and was not reported stolen. Willa is not a convicted felon. While speaking with Willa I could detect the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath.
After concluding my investigation, I advised Willa she was being placed under arrest for aggravated assault (DVA), possession of a firearm and knife during the commission of a felony, and possession of cocaine.
Willa was transported to the Chatham County Detention Center for processing. Willa was not given a bond pending with a judge. A victim notification form was filled out and submitted to the CCDC.
[VICTIM ] was issued a Garden City Police Department victim pamphlet, and a case report number. [VICTIM ] was advised of remedies and services available to him, including a protective order and safe shelter.
All evidence collected was photographed and logged in evidence in accordance with departmental policy and submitted to the GBI Crime Lab for analysis. Pending results.
CASE RESOLUTION: THIS CASE WAS CLEARED BY ARREST.
