On July 17, 2024
, at approximately 2322 hours, I responded to a hit-and-run call at Ogeechee Rd and Stiles Ave.
Upon arrival, I spoke with the victim, [VICTIM ], 64 yo B/M DOB [REDACTED BY AGENCY]/1959. According to [VICTIM ]’ statement, he was traveling westbound on Ogeechee Rd and was preparing to make a right on Stiles Ave when he got rear-ended by another vehicle. [VICTIM ] stated he did not see the vehicle after the incident happened, and his head hit the steering wheel of his vehicle.
He also mentioned having neck pains but declined EMS attention. [VICTIM ] was provided a CRN pamphlet and was informed on how to obtain the report.
While on scene another call came out from Niegel Middleton claiming he was involved in a hit and run at the Shell gas station.
While at the scene, a gentleman in a red truck approached and informed me that the other party’s vehicle was down the street at the Shell gas station on 3618 Ogeechee Rd. Upon arrival at the gas station, I met the suspect, Niegel Middleton, 29 yo B/M DOB [REDACTED BY AGENCY]/1994. According to Niegel Middleton’s statement, he was involved in a head-on collision but could not provide specific details to support his story.
Middleton had an odor of alcohol, refused to take a breathalyzer test, and did not want to provide a blood or urine sample despite being read the implied consent.
Evidence from the scene, including a sensor with a connection port, matched Middleton’s vehicle, contradicting his statements. His speech was off, indicating potential intoxication, and his refusal to test provided further proof of his state.
Middleton has multiple priors involving DUI. His vehicle was moved from the scene by a private towing company arranged by his family.
A GEARS report will be filed under the same CRN with accident details. Middleton was charged with
DUI Less Safe 40-6-391(a)(1),
Following-Too-Closely 40-6-49,
Making A False Statement 40-5-104,
Hit and Run 40-6-270(a).
He was arrested, transported to Memorial Hospital for medical clearance, and then taken to CCDC.
