On 11/27/2024
at approximately 21:30 hours I responded to [200 BLOCK] Silverton Rd. in reference to a male possibly overdosing in the back seat of a white sedan on scene, the call notes also stated that the male was given Narcan. Once on scene, I immediately activated my body-worn camera (BWC) and made with the driver of the vehicle while EMS and Fire attended to the male.
I spoke with Mr. “Driver” who stated that he picked up this male from Westlake Apartments in Savannah and drove him to the above address. He stated that when they arrived on scene, the male was unresponsive in the back seat of his vehicle. Mr. “driver” stated that he asked the owner if he knew the male in the vehicle and the owner stated that he has never seen the male in the back seat before in his life.
I then made with the male that was given Narcan, and he was identified as Mr. Maliqk Eady. While speaking with him, Mr. Eady was becoming more and more agitated and disorderly. As I started to head back to my patrol vehicle to make sure Mr. Eady had given me the correct name and date of birth, I heard a commotion behind me and that’s when I turned and seen officers fighting with Mr. Eady.
I ran over to the other officers on scene, who had escorted Mr. Eady to the ground and were attempting to place him under arrest. Mr. Eady was resisting arrest by both tensing up his body and attempting to kick officers while he was on the ground. During the struggle, I was positioned on Mr. Eady’s right side and after several commands to stop fighting, he began to try and roll onto his back and kick me. I then delivered a closed hand strike with my right hand to the bottom of Mr. Eady’s rib cage on his right side, in order to disorient him to the point that the other officers would be able to affect the arrest. This strike was affective, and Mr. Eady was placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct and Obstruction (Felony).
Apo. Muddiman and I walked Mr. Eady to my patrol vehicle and had to forcibly put him in the back seat due to Mr. Eady continuing to fight and struggle. Mr. Eady was almost all the way in the patrol vehicle, when he kicked Apo. Muddiman in his face. Mr. Eady became even more aggressive and violent while in the back seat of my patrol vehicle, he began to hit and use both of his feet to kick the windows and doors of the vehicle.
It was at this time that Sgt. Drane and I went to place leg shackles on Mr. Eady, this is when he began to scream and kick at Sgt. Drane and I. During this struggle, Mr. Eady kicked Sgt. Drane in the face and kicked me in the top of my head. Sgt. Drane advised to for me to get Mr. Eady out of the vehicle in order to apply the leg shackles, Mr. Eady was taken out of the vehicle and then was successfully placed in the leg shackles. We then had to forcibly put Mr. Eady back into the patrol vehicle where he continued to kick the doors and windows.
During this altercation, Apo. Muddiman received a small cut to his left elbow and was bleeding.
Mr. Eady was transported to Memorial Medical Center and was medically cleared for jail. He was then transported to CCDC. During both transports, Mr. Eady was still acting aggressively, kicking the doors and even putting himself upside down in the back seat for a time before correcting himself in the seat.
When we were at CCDC and Mr. Eady was in custody of the Sheriff’s office, I was able to look at the back of my vehicle and saw there was significant damage done to both doors. Neither of the back seat doors were unable to seal properly and the back passenger door was so damaged that the airbag was nearly deployed. Both handles were also completely ripped off and destroyed.
There was also damage done to Mr. [VICTIM ]’ vehicle on the right passenger door.
Mr. Eady was charged with Obstruction (Felony), Simple Battery on a LEO (three counts), Interference with Government Property (Felony) and Disorderly Conduct. He was given a court date of 02/06/2025
at 10am at the Pooler Municipal Court.
Mr. Eady was not given a bond at this time.
