On July 27th, 2024
, Pooler police officers responded to a domestic violence incident at [1600 BLOCK] Oglethorpe circle with reports of a juvenile missing. On arrival to the apartment complex, Kiara Wright was spotted at the front gate in obvious distress with a laceration on her head. We made with the victim and EMS was notified. Ms. Wright received medical care from EMS.
I then went to the location of the call, Apt [REDACTED], and made with [REDACTED], Ms. [REDACTED] said she had no idea what was going on besides that Ms. Wright had left the residence. Ms. [REDACTED] allowed us to enter the residence to check on the juveniles. We were able to identify three juveniles inside the residence. We had Ms. [REDACTED] exit the residence while we interviewed the juveniles. While interviewing juvenile one, they told us that Ms. Wright had hit her while in the car. Juvenile one showed a fear for Ms. Wright and said that she drinks excessively. Juvenile three said a laundry basket was thrown at Ms. Wright by Ms. [REDACTED]. I observed blood on the floor of the bedroom leading into the bathroom as well as on the bed. I exited the residence.
We began interviewing Ms. [REDACTED]. During the interview, she disclosed that she was in a relationship with Ms. Wright. Ms. [REDACTED] said that the two of them were drinking when Ms. Wright wanted to see Ms. [REDACTED]’s phone. Ms. [REDACTED] refused and then Ms. Wright got into a physical altercation with Ms. [REDACTED]. Ms. Wright then took juvenile 1 outside and that was the last Ms. [REDACTED] saw of her.
We then went and interviewed Ms. Wright in the back of the ambulance. Ms. Wright said that she was attacked and locked in the apartment by an unknown person named “[REDACTED]” and Ms. [REDACTED]. Ms. Wright said something was thrown at her and hit her in the head. However, she is unsure what was thrown. She then states that she took her child out of the house and hit her while in the car and told her to “stop being a bi*ch”. She states that [REDACTED] is the friend of Ms. [REDACTED]. EMS then transported Ms. Wright to Memorial Medical Hospital.
I returned to the residence to interview Ms. [REDACTED] again. I observed APO Laster ask Ms. [REDACTED] whether or not anyone else was in the house. It was not until we brought up the name “[REDACTED]” that she said someone else was previously there. I asked Ms. [REDACTED] if she had any personal information on [REDACTED] and she did not. Ms. [REDACTED] said that [REDACTED] is Ms. Wright’s friend.
Officer Laster then conducted a follow up interview with Juvenile one while I waited outside the residence. (See Supplemental)
Officer Laster and I then went to Memorial Medical Hospital to place Ms. Wright under arrest for Cruelty to Children in the 2nd degree. I was told that Ms. Wright had fled the hospital approximately 15 minutes prior to our arrival. We found Ms. Wright at a nearby gas station and placed her under arrest (double-locked) at 23:51. We then headed back to Memorial Medical Hospital to get her medically cleared. It was here that Ms. Wright became non-compliant and used racial terms towards me and other officers in the area. Ms. Wright refused medical treatment. While moving Ms. Wright to the back of the patrol car, she immediately tried to sit down and had to be stood back up. We transported Ms. Wright to Chatham County Detention Center and processed her.
