On 07/06/2024
at approximately 1744 hours I was dispatched to [SINGLE DIGIT BLOCK] Roseberry Circle, located in Port Wentworth, Chatham County, Ga in reference to a domestic disturbance. Per CAD notes, the suspect had fled the scene, and the complainant left the residence and relocated next door to [SINGLE DIGIT BLOCK] RoseBerry Circle with a neighbor. Further notes showed that there were juveniles involved along with the victim having injuries via strangulation.
Upon arriving on scene, I met with a female subject who later identified as [VICTIM ]. The predominate aggressor was later identified as Jonathan Armstrong. While speaking with Mrs. [VICTIM ] it was confirmed Mr. Armstrong had fled the scene prior to the police arriving on scene.
My investigation began by asking Mrs. [VICTIM ] what happened and how it happened. Mrs. [VICTIM ] stated Mr. Armstrong was upset with her hours prior due to her helping him clean up in the front yard. Mrs. [VICTIM ] continued to explain she left the residence to go to the city junkyard, at which time then went to Depot. Mrs. [VICTIM ] was away from the residence for approximately two hours prior to returning to the residence.
Upon Mrs. [VICTIM ] returning to the residence, she stated she was pinned between the garage door and a wall in the entry way of the from the garage. She explained Mr. Armstrong slammed the door into her multiple times. Mrs. [VICTIM ] sustained an injury on her big toe on her right foot. I observed the entire toe nail to be hanging off with visible blood. Once Mrs. [VICTIM ] could make it inside the , Mr. Armstrong then grabbed her by the neck under her chin with both of his hands and slammed her into an end table where a lamp was placed. Mrs. [VICTIM ] then explained she was grabbed again and had her head slammed into a wall. Mrs. [VICTIM ] sustained additional injuries.
I observed her face to have redness on her nose, along with what looked to be a scratch on the left side of her face. I further observed Mrs. [VICTIM ] to have what looked to be swelling of a knot on her forehead. When asked about any further injuries she had complaints of neck pain. Furthermore she stated at one point during the incident she was seeing stars. Fire/EMS responded to the scene to evaluate Mrs. [VICTIM ] for her injuries. She declined to be transported to the hospital for further evaluation due to having to watch over her children.
She continued to explain as Mr. Armstrong was walking towards the front door Mrs. [VICTIM ] followed him. Mrs. [VICTIM ] gave the following statements of what Mr. Armstrong stated to her. “What you walking behind me for” and “what you gonna do.” At which point Mrs. [VICTIM ] stated she was hit in the face multiple times with a closed fist by Mr. Armstrong. Juveniles one, two and three were all present for these acts, as they were sitting at the dinner table. Mrs. [VICTIM ] stated all three juveniles were screaming and crying for the incident to stop. Mrs. [VICTIM ] then proceeded to attempt a 911 phone call. She continued to explain Mr. Armstrong slapped her phone out of her hand. Mrs. [VICTIM ] stated she believed Mr. Armstrong took her phone without consent prior to leaving the scene.
Upon Mr. Armstrong exiting the residence, Mrs. [VICTIM ] could then close the front door and lock the door. Mrs. [VICTIM ] then proceeded to exit the residence and fled to the neighbors’ yard with all three juveniles located next door at [SINGLE DIGIT BLOCK] Roseberry Circle. Due to fleeing in such a rush juvenile 1 did not have any pants on. The neighbor was later identified as [WITNESS ]. Ms. [WITNESS ] stated she heard talking outside. Upon opening her front door, she observed Mrs. [VICTIM ] standing in her front yard and asked if she was okay. Ms. [WITNESS ] explained Mrs. [VICTIM ] then stated the following statements “I’m sorry, I’m tired of keeping this a secret.” “I’m tired of him hitting me all the time.” Ms. [WITNESS ] allowed Mrs. [VICTIM ] inside the residence and allowed her to call 911 via her cell phone.
Mrs. [VICTIM ] stated Mr. Armstrong suffers from anger issues and was possibly intoxicated at the time of the incident. When asked how she knew of possible intoxication she stated she could smell the odor of alcohol on his breath. It was unknown what exactly Mr. Armstrong had to drink and unknown of the quantity.
Mrs. [VICTIM ] stated there was a hole in the wall along with a possible broken end table and a broken lamp inside the residence due to the incident. CID was notified at which time Detective Meeks responded to the scene. Officers on scene did not enter the residence in order to preserve the crime scene for Detective Meeks to process. The scene was turned over to Detective Meeks for further investigation upon his arrival.
Prior to leaving the scene, Mrs. [VICTIM ] was given a victim/witness pamphlet along with a case number in reference to the incident. Mrs. [VICTIM ] was advised to not stay at the residence for the night due to the possibility of risking her and the juvenile’s safety if Mr. Armstrong was to return to the residence.
