at 1628 hrs I, Corporal Milam responded to [700 BLOCK] Glenbrook Road in reference to an active physical altercation between a male 911 caller and female. The call notes advised that the male was reporting that a female had come to the residence and was refusing to leave and had a knife threatening to kill her self. As time went on the call appeared as if the situation was quickly escalating as the caller reported the female was waving the knife at him and the call taker noted they could hear the caller telling the female to back up and could hear the female yelling in the background. The dispatcher then noted that the male had hit the female with a vacuum as she was trying to cut him.
I arrived on scene with Officer McGaha and Officer Davis. The caller Mr. [VICTIM ] went toward a garage at the residence and the female, Ms. Pace was heard inside of the and complied with officers. Once the parties were separated and the scene secure I spoke with Mr. [VICTIM ].
[VICTIM ] advised that Pace was an ex girlfriend who had previously lived at the residence with him. I am somewhat familiar with the couple and have responded to other domestic disturbance calls between the two. [VICTIM ] advised several weeks ago Pace had moved out and left and been staying somewhere else. [VICTIM ] advised he had been in his garage when Pace crawled under the garage door which had been partially shut about three feet off of the ground. He advised that Pace began demanding that she be allowed to cook crab legs he had given her earlier in the day.
Mr. [VICTIM ] advised he requested Pace to leave his when she went in the kitchen and retrieved a large knife and began making suicidal statements. He advised that they continued to argue about a Facebook post she had made and her not leaving when she became aggressive with the knife toward him. Mr. [VICTIM ] advised that Pace began swinging the knife toward him causing him to back away when he grabbed a vacuum that was nearby and swung it and hit her to get her away from him as she was swinging the knife at him. Mr. [VICTIM ] advised that this caused a laceration to her forehead. He advised she again attempted to swing the knife at him and that he slapped her arm away when the knife fell and was kicked under the refrigerator. Mr. [VICTIM ] advised that the knife was still under the refrigerator. Mr. [VICTIM ] had no apparent physical injury.
I observed the portion of the where this incident had occurred in a walkway between the kitchen and garage in front of a washer and dryer. I observed a vacuum laying on the ground and apparent blood on the ground and doorway. I took photographs of this area and uploaded the images to evidence.com. I then looked under the nearby refrigerator and observed a large silver in color knife.
Officer Davis spoke with Ms. Pace and obtained her statement (see supplemental). Pace had an injury to her forehead and was treated by EMS.
The on duty supervisor was notified and responded. Detective Brunson was also notified and responded and continued the investigation.
I observed surveillance cameras on the outside of the and one in the interior in the dining room near the kitchen. Mr. [VICTIM ] allowed me access to the surveillance system which was connected to his security system and viewable on a wall mounted panel. I reviewed the system and found that the interior camera was motion activated and did not capture any of the incident. An exterior camera above the garage door was accessible and showed at approximately 1424 hrs Ms. Pace outside of the garage standing in the driveway where she is handed a box of food and leaves. The next “event” is at 1606 hrs and shows Pace arrive back at the residence and enter the garage. The footage is unclear if Pace crawls under the partially opened garage door or if the garage was fully opened. I recorded this footage and uploaded it to evidence.com.
I later retrieved the knife from under the refrigerator and seized it as evidence. It was a large silver in color kitchen knife. I relinquished custody of the knife to Officer Davis.
At the conclusion of Detective Brunson’s interviews and investigation Pace was determined to have been the predominant aggressor. I placed Pace under arrest and in handcuffs behind her back. Pace was ed by Officer Davis and secured in my vehicle.
Ms. Pace’s vehicle a 2022 Infiniti QX80 had been parked in the roadway blocking the driveway to [700 BLOCK] Glenbrook Road. Due to Ms. Pace being arrested and unable to remove the vehicle a head out wrecker was requested. Jasper Towing removed the vehicle and Pace was provided with tow paper work.
Officer Reyes of the oncoming shift took custody and transported Pace to Memorial Medical Center for clearance.
I conducted a domestic violence lethality assessment with Mr. [VICTIM ] and provided him with a CRN and Safe Shelter Outreach information.
