On October 29th, 2023, at approximately 3:41 AM, I responded to a domestic call at [1100 BLOCK] E Park Ave. My involvement was captured by my department issued body worn camera.
Upon arrival, I spoke with Ms. [VICTIM ]. She informed me that herself and her boyfriend Mr. Eric James, were recently in a physical altercation. She informed me that they were trying to figure out what they were going to eat for the night, while they were talking about the food things began to escalate. Once things began to escalate Mr. James approached Ms. [VICTIM ] and got directly into her face, and she then tried to step back and create space. I then asked her what happened after that but she was unable to remember any details.
She then informed me that Mr. James did choke her more than once, which led to her loosing her breath. I did observe her lip with dried blood on it and a few marks of physical force around her neck and above her right eyebrow.
EMS/EMT Mrs. [REDACTED] came to the location and evaluated Ms. [VICTIM ]. Ms. [REDACTED] did inform me that Ms. [VICTIM ] had sign of being choke inside of her throat and also had petechiae inside of her mouth. Please read CRN# CEMS231029047 for further details from Ms. [REDACTED].
I requested a supervisor respond to the location. Sgt. Leach did respond.
Ms. [VICTIM ] did answer a lethality form.
I attempted to SafeShelter, and while speaking with them they disconnected, I attempted to SafeShelter multiple time but was unable to get them to answer.
A detective was requested for the call.
Ms. [VICTIM ] did advise me that she had a place to go to and stay separated from Mr. James. I gave Ms. [VICTIM ] a CRN card and explained the process to obtain a copy of the report.
