On August 1, 2024
, at 1710 hours, I responded to [2800 BLOCK] Capital St #[REDACTED], regarding a domestic dispute. The call advised that a male subject strangled and attempted to stab a female. The caller advised that the female subject and children were able to flee the scene. It should be noted that the information was relayed via the language line.
The call advised that the male subject was wearing a black graphic shirt which displayed a person with a beard. When I arrived on the scene, I observed a male matching the description exiting building [REDACTED]. The male signaled to responding officers that he did not speak any English. Officers were able to give brief commands and checked the subject for weapons. The subject was identified as Mr. Anthony Sonyer.
Due to not being able to locate the female subject in the incident. I conducted a protective sweep of the residence, in of any injured parties. The revealed that there were no other persons inside the apartment.
A responding officer, interviewed Mr. Sonyer using Google Translate. The following is a summary of Mr. Sonyer’s statement. Mr. Sonyer advised that he was involved in a verbal altercation with his spouse. Mr. Sonyer explained that the argument never became physical. Mr. Sonyer explained during the argument he broke his phone.
Officers canvassed the surrounding areas looking for the victim. The initially yielded negative results. While on the scene, I observed a Hispanic female with two children walking towards us. The female was barefooted and visibly upset. The children accompanying her were both crying. The subject was identified as Ms. [VICTIM ].
Ms. [VICTIM ] was interviewed by a responding officer who translated the statement. Ms. [VICTIM ] explained she was involved in an altercation with her husband Mr. Anthony. Ms. [VICTIM ] advised that the incident started because they were arguing about the bad behaviors of Mr. Anthony’s son. Ms. [VICTIM ] stated while conversing she received a text from another male. Ms. [VICTIM ] explained that this irritated Mr. Anthony who grabbed her phone and broke it. Ms. [VICTIM ] advised that then Mr. Anthony began strangling her with one hand. Ms. [VICTIM ] advised on a scale of one through ten, he applied pressure being equivalent to ten. Ms. [VICTIM ] expressed that she was fearful during this incident.
Ms. [VICTIM ] was checked for injuries by the responding detective. It was advised that there were several marks along her neck.
Ms. [WITNESS ] was ed for an interview. This interaction was also translated by a responding officer. Ms. [WITNESS ] was identified as Ms. [VICTIM ]’s daughter. Ms. [WITNESS ] advised she observed her parents in a physical altercation. Ms. [WITNESS ] stated that Mr. Anthony was strangling her mother. Ms. [WITNESS ] explained that she defended her mother by pushing Mr. Anthony off of her. Ms. [WITNESS ] stated that shortly after, she ed SPD for assistance.
Based on the statements given and the presence of visible injuries. It was determined that Mr. Anthony was the predominant aggressor in this incident. He was charged with Aggravated Assault (Strangulation), Criminal Trespass DVA, and Cruelty to children in 3rd Degree. He was transported to CCDC by another officer.
Ms. [VICTIM ] completed the DVA lethality questionnaire. Upon completion, Ms. [VICTIM ] refused services despite screening into referral protocol. She was given a CRN card and instructions on retrieving the report later.
A supervisor responded. Family Violence Detectives responded to the scene.
