Cantrell was traveling north bound on Ooltewah Ringgold Rd just north of Lovingood Rd. when he observed a vehicle traveling south bound at a high rate of speed. Lt. Cantrell checked the vehicle’s speed using his in car Eagle 3 radar unit and it showed the vehicle was traveling 73mph in a 55mph zone with the doppler tones matching. Lt. Cantrell then turned around on the vehicle and attempted to catch up with it. The vehicle appeared to accelerate at a high rate of speed, making it difficult for Lt. Cantrell to catch up to.After a short time, Lt. Cantrell lost sight of it and began BOLOing the area for the vehicle. While Lt. Cantrell was looking for the vehicle, a call for service came out of a vehicle crash that involved a vehicle versus a house at Ooltewah Ringgold Rd and Tennessee St. Upon Lt. Cantrell’s arrival, the vehicle was on fire and inside of an abandoned building, the driver was eventually able to exit the vehicle. Officer Goresh (Ringgold PD) was able to pull the driver to safety, however the two passengers succumbed to their injuries.
