Discretion is advised.]On August 26,2024, around 2001 I responded to the intersection of 3rd St. and Cherry St. in reference to a person stabbed.Upon my arrival I was met by a large crowd and the victim ([VICTIM ]) stating that the individual responsible for the stabbing lived in the Dempsey Apartments. While the victim was receiving care from the fire dept. I spoke with the victim’s girlfriend ([WITNESS ]) who stated that an older male name Leon Hambrick was the one who stabbed her boyfriend after the two had gotten into a verbal argument that led to a physical fight near Reboot gaming cafe. Still speaking with Ms. [WITNESS ] I was told by dispatch that the accused had called 911 himself and wanted to make with law enforcement.Walking over to the apartments and standing in the lobby the accused exited the elevator and was taken into custody. During the altercation Ms. [WITNESS ] kids which are the victim step kids witnessed the incident and caused them to become sick after seeing their stepdad being stabbed multiple times. The kids were very distraught to the point where they started vomiting profusely.During this time the accused was placed into Sgt. Collins car and transported to the LEC while I went to Atrium Health to check on the victim’s condition. Once I arrived at the hospital, I was told that the victim had to be rushed to emergency surgery. The nurse on duty advised me that Mr. [VICTIM ] had been stabbed once in the chest under his heart and once in the right arm.At a later date I will try to make with Mr. [VICTIM ] to get a detailed statement on the incident. The knife used during this incident was not located. This is still an ongoing investigation no further at this time.[End of Narrative].
