On October 5, 2024
, at 1851 hrs, both deputies from Uniformed Patrol and SRT responded to reports of a shooting at a youth travel football game located at 2172 Anthony Rd. (Henderson Stadium).
The game, which featured travel teams from both, Macon and Atlanta, turned violent when a local social media trend, “BTA”, which stands for ‘Belt to A*s” led to teasing and arguments between the opposing sides at the end of the game. Security initially, separated the groups and ushered the parties from Atlanta out into the parking lot.
However, some of members made their way back inside and a second clash between both, parties eventually, turned into a large, physical altercation involving players, parents, coaches, and even the cheerleaders of both teams. During the ensuing melee, a youth coach from the Atlanta based team produced a gun and began firing that weapon into the air. That coach, Donta Williams, was identified, and claimed he fired his weapon, because it was the only way he thought to gain control of the scene and stop those involved in the altercation.
Mr. Williams said he did not think or attempt to dial 911, nor did he see anyone else armed at the time. Based on his statements and actions, which generated more fear and concerns, Mr. Williams arrested at the scene. Though some reported minor injuries as a result of the melee, no one was found to have been injured by gunfire.
Several others from both, parties were also identified and arrested at the scene. All were transported to the Bibb County LEC for detention and processing. Additional charges may be pending.
