On Sunday, July 14, 2024
, at approximately 0300 hours I was dispatched to [20 BLOCK] Baker St in reference to a Family Violence event in progress. The complainant told Bartow County Dispatch that her son, Savante Hopkins, broke into her bedroom with a knife.
Upon arrival I could hear Mr. Hopkins yelling at me before I exited my vehicle. Once I exited Mr. Hopkins told me I should not come near him and should not talk to him or I would have a bad night. I approached the residence and Mr. Hopkins told me he was ready to “fight, shoot, kill, whatever I wanted to do”.
While Mr. Hopkins was making the above statements complainant came out of the house. I asked Complainant if she was the person who called and for the name or Mr. Hopkins. Mr. Hopkins got up and said he was going to leave. I told Mr. Hopkins to sit back down and he began to approach me while lifting his shirt as if to take it off. I then drew my Taser and pointed it at Mr. Hopkins, telling him repeatedly to sit down. At this point Officers Hawley and Janssen arrived and Mr. Hopkins was placed into handcuffs with no further incident. Mr. Hopkins was taken to the road and I went into the house to speak to Complainant.
Complainant said Mr. Hopkins and a couple other people were drinking on her back porch earlier that day. Complainant said she went to bed and locked her bedroom door. Complainant said Mr. Hopkins then grabbed a kitchen knife and used it to force her door open. Complainant said Mr. Hopkins stood in the door to her bedroom with the knife and told her he was going to murder everyone in the house. Ms. [VICTIM ] said she was very afraid for her safety throughout this encounter.
Mr. Hopkins was placed into the rear of Officer Janssen’s patrol vehicle and transported to the Bartow County Jail.
Warrants were obtained for Aggravated Assault (Family Violence), Felony Obstruction, and Disorderly Conduct.
