On Sunday, August 11th, 2024
at approximately 1716 hours I was dispatched to [500 BLOCK] Douglas St. in reference to a dispute. While en route dispatch advised the caller had moved to [200 BLOCK] Douglas St. trying to get away from the aggressor. Upon my arrival, I met with the victim identified as Mr. [VICTIM ].
Mr. [VICTIM ] stated he, and Nkosi Preston were in a heated physical altercation because Mr. Preston owed Mr. [VICTIM ] $10. Mr. [VICTIM ]’s knee gave out on him and he said he was done. Mr. Preston still being irate grabbed a pressure washer nozzle and attempted to hit Mr. [VICTIM ] with it. A witness Mr. [WITNESS ] grabbed Mr. Preston to prevent him from hitting Mr. [VICTIM ]. Mr. Preston was let go, and ran into the residence grabbing a kitchen knife with a wooden handle, Mr. Preston offensively raised the knife at Mr. [VICTIM ] stating “I’m going to fu*king kill you” in the presence of Mr. [WITNESS ], and another witness Ms. [WITNESS ]. This placed Mr. [VICTIM ] in great fear for his life or possible injury. Mr. [WITNESS ] once again stopped Mr. Preston from stabbing Mr. [VICTIM ].
Mr. [VICTIM ] was on the phone with Bartow County Dispatch and was told to try and get away from Mr. Preston. Mr. [VICTIM ], Mr. [WITNESS ], and Ms. [WITNESS ] left the residence in Mr. [WITNESS ]’s vehicle displaying Georgia tag [REDACTED], and went to [200 BLOCK] Douglas St. Mr. Preston got into his vehicle displaying Georgia tag [REDACTED], and followed them there. Mr. [VICTIM ] remained on the line with Bartow County Dispatch, while he was still verbal with Mr. Preston. Mr. Preston fled the scene before my arrival. Sgt. Herron with CID arrived on scene to investigate.
Mr. [WITNESS ] stated that Mr. [VICTIM ] and Mr. Preston were fighting, and Mr. [VICTIM ] has bad knees, and his knee gave out during the fight. Mr. Preston grabbed a pressure washer wand and tried to go after Mr. [VICTIM ]. Mr. [WITNESS ] stated he was ok letting them fight like men but Mr. [VICTIM ] was down, and he wasn’t going to let him get hit anymore so he grabbed Mr. Preston. Mr. Preston was let go and ran back into the house when he came back he had a knife and attempted to stab Mr. [VICTIM ] saying he was going to kill him.
Ms. [WITNESS ] stated that Mr. [VICTIM ] and Mr. Preston were fighting when Mr. [VICTIM ] fell down due to his knee giving out. Mr. Preston then tried to hit Mr. [VICTIM ] with a pressure washer wand, and Mr. [WITNESS ] stopped him. Mr. Preston was let go and ran into the house returning with a knife, Mr. Preston attempted to stab Mr. [VICTIM ] saying he was going to kill him.
A picture of Mr. Preston was shown to Mr. [VICTIM ], Mr. [WITNESS ], and Ms. [WITNESS ] without any name. Mr. [VICTIM ], Mr. [WITNESS ], and Ms. [WITNESS ] identified Mr. Preston without seeing a name just the picture. Mr. [VICTIM ] stated Mr. Preston left the knife on a vehicle at [500 BLOCK] Douglas St. Officer Jones found the knife and returned to the scene leaving it in his patrol vehicle. Mr. [VICTIM ], Mr. [WITNESS ], and Ms. [WITNESS ] correctly described the knife without seeing it.
Warrants were obtained for Mr. Preston for the offenses of Aggravated Assault with warrant number CE-0168502, and Terroristic Threats with warrant number CE-0168503. Copies of the warrants and victim sheet are attached to the report. The knife that was recovered was placed into Cartersville Police evidence for safe keeping.
At approximately 2039 hours on the same date Mr. Preston was located at [20 BLOCK] Garrison Dr. Mr. Preston was detained and read his Miranda rights, Mr. Preston agreed to speak with me. Mr. Preston stated that he and Mr. [VICTIM ] were in a physical fight but he never pulled a knife on him. Mr. Preston was placed under arrest with his hands behind his back, the handcuffs were double locked for safety. Mr. Preston was placed in the rear of my patrol vehicle which was ed prior to and after transport yielding negative for contraband. Mr. Preston was transported to 104 Zena Dr. (Bartow County Adult Detention Center) where he was turned over to deputies on scene without incident.
