On Tuesday, September 24, 2024
, at 1715 hours, I was dispatched to [90 BLOCK] Bell DR Cartersville, GA 30121, regarding a dispute. Later, upon investigation, it was a domestic in progress.
On arrival, I spoke to [WITNESS ], who indicated she was supposed to take her grandson Dawson Ledford to the bank earlier at 1500 hours. She waited a couple of hours and asked Dawson if he would go, and he began to yell at her. [VICTIM ] is [WITNESS ]’s husband and Dawson’s grandfather. Dawson began to argue with [VICTIM ], and they began to shove each other. [WITNESS ] states she observed when Dawson grabbed [VICTIM ] and pushed him down, causing him to lose balance and fall over a damaged lamp vase.
[VICTIM ] indicated he would not tolerate Dawson speaking to his wife like that. He told Dawson to leave the house, and Dawson pushed him down, causing him to fall over a table and damage a vase. He indicated he hit Dawson with his cane as Dawson was coming at him again in an attempt to keep him on the ground and did this in self-defense.
[VICTIM ] showed no marks or redness. Although photos of the damaged vase were not taken, they were captured on a body camera.
Dawson stated he was supposed to go to the bank, but [VICTIM ] intervened, and they began yelling and pushing each other. Dawson indicated he pushed [VICTIM ], and as a result, the vase was damaged.
Dawson was placed under arrest for Simple battery and criminal trespass damage to property, both under family violence. Handcuffs were applied and checked for fit, followed by double locking. He was transported and released to jail staff without issue.
A case number was given to [VICTIM ].
