On 10-21-2024, Dispatch was notified by Atrium Baldwin of a domestic dispute which had occurred the week prior. The incident involved [VICTIM #1] and Cabotis Canty. Hospital staff reported the incident and advised dispatch that [VICTIM #1] was going into surgery for treatment to an injury from the incident, and [VICTIM #1] would make contact with the Sheriff’s Office when she was released. On 10-22-2024, Dispatch made contact by telephone with [VICTIM #1], but she advised she would make contact with deputies at a later time.
Deputy Peavey and I went to [100 BLOCK] Hardwick Street to make contact with [VICTIM #1] about the incident, and check her well-being. Upon our arrival, I made contact with Cabotis Canty, who I knew had an outstanding Probation Warrant. Canty was placed under arrest, and transported to the jail by Deputy Peavey. Sgt. Brown arrived on scene. We made contact with [VICTIM #1], who is in a relationship with Canty, and resides with him at the same address.
[VICTIM #1] stated that on 10-13-2024, she and Canty were in a verbal argument about Canty cheating with another woman. [VICTIM #1] stated that Canty pushed her into a mirror while her back was turned, causing the mirror to crack and her leg to get cut. [VICTIM #1] stated Canty then struck her once, but she could not tell me what she was struck with because she was shielding her head. [VICTIM #1]’s leg was in a cast and boot from the surgery so I was unable to see the injury to her leg, and I did not observe any other injuries to her person.
[VICTIM #1] stated that she went to work the next day, but she was bleeding from her leg the whole time. [VICTIM #1] stated she was told by co-workers that she needed to go to the hospital. [VICTIM #1] stated photographs of her injuries were obtained by a co-worker before going to the hospital. [VICTIM #1] stated Canty drove her to Atrium Baldwin on 10-14-2024, and she was informed by hospital staff that her right Achilles tendon was torn and would require surgery. [VICTIM #1] stated she was referred to Doctor [REDACTED] on 10-15-2024, and had her pre operative visit on 10-18-2024. [VICTIM #1] stated her surgery was performed on 10-21-2024.
[VICTIM #1] stated that she needed Canty to drive her around, which is why she waited to report the incident. I will follow up with [VICTIM #1] later in the week to retrieve the pictures of her injury once she is able to get them from her co-worker. Sergeant Brown provided [VICTIM #1] with a domestic violence pamphlet. Assistant district attorney [REDACTED] was notified of the incident, and we were advised a warrant should be secured for Canty.
I will be securing a warrant on Canty for Aggravated Battery Domestic Violence.
