On the above date and time, I was working in an off duty capacity at the ST. Paul CME church located at 1601 Barnard Street, I observed the subject (later identified as Eric Holmes) enter into the church without a shirt on. Upon seeing uniformed officers approaching, Holmes began to run towards the front of the sanctuary. I approached Holmes and ordered him to stop running. Holmes then began talking in a loud manner (disturbing church services) as I escorted him out of the church where I placed him into handcuffs. Holmes remained shirtless throughout this incident.
Holmes was arrested and charged with OCGA 16-11-39 Disorderly Conduct.
Holmes had been observed by this officer and Sergeant K. Samuell causing several disturbances at the church property throughout the morning. Holmes had been verbally aggressive and inappropriate with female parishioners. Holmes had also been observed interfering with the flow of traffic along Barnard Street by refusing to exit the travel lanes for vehicles. Holmes’ actions were observed prior to him running into the church causing the additional disturbance.
Holmes was transported to and booked into the Chatham County Detention Center (CCDC) by a uniformed patrol officer from SPD’s Central precinct.
