On June 29th, 2024
at approximately 1916 hours I, Officer Fazzari, employed by the Adairsville Police Department Uniform Patrol Division was dispatched to Water Tower Grill in reference to a welfare check on a female sitting out front of the restaurant. Upon arrival I met with a blonde female that had multiple bags sitting on a bench. I began asking her what was going on. The female asked if we could walk over to my patrol unit so no one could hear her. Once in front of the vehicle, the female began explaining that her and her boyfriend Matthew Adcock were in a domestic altercation approximately 45 minutes earlier at [200 BLOCK] North Main Street.
The female identified as Ms. [VICTIM ], Ms. [VICTIM ] explained that her and Mr. Adcock were verbally arguing, during the argument Mr. Adcock told her to leave and threw a jar of peanut butter at her hitting her left leg resulting in a bruise being visible. When she was attempting to leave, Mr. Adcock began to get mad and grabbed her. When Mr. Adcock grabbed Ms. [VICTIM ], she stated she was trying to get away from him. Ms. [VICTIM ] then explained that when she began to pull away Mr. Adcock grabbed her and slammed her to the ground and grabbed her by the throat and held her down. I then asked Ms. [VICTIM ], if I could look at her neck, I noticed her neck had visible red marks around throat area. She then explained that she had a recording of an argument between them and you could hear Mr. Adcock admitting to him choking her. I then asked Ms. [VICTIM ], if she would like for medical personnel to check her out, she said yes she did.
Ms. [VICTIM ] explained that when Mr. Adcock slammed her to the ground he was strangling her, she stated that she felt Mr. Adcock apply pressure by squeezing her throat resulting in her gasping for air. She stated when she was trying to get him off of her she was yelling “get off” multiple times and ripped his shirt. Metro ambulance personnel arrived shortly after and took over. Metro ambulance personnel asked if Ms. [VICTIM ] wanted to go to the hospital to be seen, Ms. [VICTIM ] stated yes. I then spoke with Sgt. Burchett in reference to the incident and explained that Mr. Adcock should still be at his house. Sgt. Burchett, Officer Avila and I arrived at [200 BLOCK] North Main Street shortly after in attempt to make with Mr. Adcock.
As I was pulling into the driveway I saw Mr. Matthew Adcock walking towards my patrol unit. Once I stepped out of the vehicle, Officer Avila and I placed him in handcuffs. I checked for fitment and double locked, I then read the Miranda warnings to Mr. Adcock and ask if he was willing to speak to me. He agreed to talking and I began asking questions as to where Ms. [VICTIM ] was. Mr. Adcock was not sure and stated she left approximately an hour and a half ago. I then asked what had happened early when she was leaving, Mr. Adcock stated nothing happened and that he was trying to escort her out of his house. I asked if there was any physical that happened, Mr. Adcock stated there was no physical . He explained that he told Ms. [VICTIM ] left and was “escorting” her by her shirt to the front door.
Sgt. Burchett then asked if he had grabbed her by her throat at any point and time. Mr. Adcock stated no, and I explained that I saw a red mark on her throat that looked like the palm of a hand had hit it. Mr. Adcock then turned around trying to show us his hands and explained he does not have any marks or cuts. I then asked if he had thrown a jar of peanut butter at Ms. [VICTIM ], He stated “he may have thrown a thing of peanut butter”. I then walked Mr. Adcock over to my patrol unit and placed him in the back seat.
I then transported Mr. Matthew Adcock to Bartow County Jail without further incident. Mr. Matthew Adcock is being charged with Aggravated Assault by strangulation for strangling Ms. [VICTIM ] when he slammed her to the ground. As well as Battery FVA for throwing a jar of peanut butter hitting Ms. [VICTIM ] in the left leg resulting in visible bruises.
