On Saturday, 7/6/24, I responded to the report of a domestic disturbance at The Grove. Upon arrival, I met with the victim, identified as [VICTIM ], and a witness, identified as [WITNESS ].
Speaking with [VICTIM ], he explained that he and his ex-wife identified, as ERICA WRIGHT, have been going through a divorce over the past couple of months. [VICTIM ] and Wright have been together for around six years and share a two-year-old daughter. [VICTIM ] has a new girlfriend and Wright is upset that he has moved on.
While [VICTIM ] was outside sitting in the lane on a break. Wright drove her vehicle down the lane, turning it, to go straight at him. During this, she had their daughter as a passenger inside the vehicle. [VICTIM ] was able to move before being hit. Following that incident, he proceeded into The Grove. Wright pursued him into the business, wielding a pink metal bat.
As [VICTIM ] ran into different areas of The Grove, she continued after him holding and swinging the bat. Staff members were able to stop her and she left the property.
After Wright left, she drove to [VICTIM ]’s girlfriend’s residence, where she drove her vehicle hitting her . Chatham County PD responded to this incident, where they were able to get Wright detained. Chatham County PD has its own charges against Wright for Criminal Trespass, Reckless Driving, and Cruelty to Children 3rd Degree. This incident is under case report number CC240706017.
The Grove showed me video footage where I observed Wright attempting to hit [VICTIM ] with her vehicle. Afterwards chasing him inside with a pink bat.
The witness [WITNESS ] told me she had swung the bat in the lane after exiting her vehicle. While inside she pursued him making the individuals inside fearful as she held and swung the bat. At one point she swung the bat hitting the ice machine while an employee identified as [REDACTED], was standing near it.
While at The Grove, Chatham County PD informed us they had Wright detained. It was requested they hold her until I could meet them at their location. Upon arrival, Chatham County PD Officers brought me to Wright. I placed her under arrest for the incident occurring at The Grove. Her handcuffs were checked for proper fit and were double-locked. She was ed by a female Chatham County PD Officer incident to arrest. I read Wright her Miranda Rights, she acknowledged she understood them and was willing to speak with me.
Wright told me she was on her way to the hairdresser when she made a wrong turn and ended up in the lane [VICTIM ] was in. She stated she “Let her emotions take the best of me” and “When I seen that ni*ger it kicked in”. Wright said she did not go there looking to conduct this behavior. I informed Wright I would get a warrant to retrieve the bat from her vehicle. She gave me verbal consent to enter the vehicle to get it.
Wright was transported and booked into CCDC without incident. The bat was brought to the Savannah PD Property Room and logged in as evidence.
A Domestic Violence Lethality form was filled out and will be uploaded as a supplemental report.
Defacs will be ed regarding the incident. I requested video footage be sent to me by The Grove staff.
