Discretion is advised.]On 7/10/2024 at approximately 1930 hours [VICTIM #1] called in stating that a vehicle had just struck the St. Clair’s gas station that he owns at 1507 Dawnville Road. [VICTIM #1] stated that the tag on the vehicle was “[REDACTED]”. While en route to this call, dispatch advised of a single vehicle wreck on Old Beaverdale Road. The driver was said to possibly be drunk and the tag was said to be “[REDACTED]”. Sgt. Southern responded to Old Beaverdale first to assist Deputy Townsend get the subject in custody since he had run and hid in the woods. The driver was identified as Nicholas Ledford. Deputy Townsend placed him under arrest for this incident on Old Beaverdale Road. See report 24-3937 for further. The vehicle was a white Toyota 4Runner.Sgt. Southern then responded to St. Clair’s. He observed one side of the building to have a damaged wall from where a vehicle struck it. Sgt. Southern was then allowed to review the video footage at the store by [REDACTED]. A white Toyota 4Runner was seen backing into the building. Nicholas was then seen exiting the vehicle, inspecting the damage, and leaving the scene without notifying anyone. A witness, [WITNESS #1], stated he observed the incident as well and described it as Sgt. Southern had seen it on video.[REDACTED] estimated the wall damage to be $10,000-$15,000 and the cooler damage to be $50,000. From the inside of the store, you could see the beer cooler wall was pushed in and broken. Since Nicholas was already in custody, Sgt. Southern responded to the Whitfield County Jail and issued him citation 314904 for Duty to Report Accident (40-6-273) and charged him with Criminal Damage to Property 2nd Degree (16-7-23) both on warrantless arrest 68994.
