On Saturday, July 6th of 2024
at 2220 hours, while working as a HEAT Unit conducting speed enforcement, I observed a vehicle traveling westbound on E. Henry St with no headlights, and traveling at a higher rate of speed.
Upon observing the vehicle. a black in color Acura MDX SUV GA plate of [REDACTED], traveling on E. Henry St, the vehicle appeared to be traveling at a higher rate of speed than the posted 30 MPH. The vehicle’s speed was recorded and locked in at 43 MPH in a posted 30 MPH zone by my department issued RADAR device, a Stalker Dual SL S/N DD008727. The vehicle was also traveling on Henry with no from headlights.
I pulled out into the lane of travel, was able to re-acquire the vehicle on E Henry St, and then activated my emergency equipment (lights and siren) as we went under the bridge on Henry St. After turning on the emergency equipment, the vehicle switch from the left to the right lane, seeming as if the vehicle was going to come to a stop, but the vehicle then made another abrupt turn back into the left lane and begun to accurate at a high rate of speed. Once the vehicle reached the intersection of E. Henry and Price St, the vehicle made a left turn to travel southbound on Price St, but the vehicle had moved over into the bike lane, passing other vehicles on its left side, went thorough the red traffic signal at Anderson and Price St, and then continued southbound on Price St.
While at the intersection of Anderson and Price, I came to a stop and deactivated my emergency equipment per policy, but was still able to observed the vehicle continuing to improperly pass vehicle on southbound Price St, using the bike lane as it’s own passing lane, and then fail to stop at the intersection of Price and 37 th St. After the vehicle cleared the intersection, it made it’s way back into the main lane of travel and the vehicle left my line of sight. The vehicle description, license plate, and last known direction of travel were all aired.
Roughly, a few moments later GSP Ricon 550 came across the air and informed me had stopped the vehicle and asked me to come on the intersection of Montgomery and N. Baldwin. Upon arrival, GSP Troopers had pitted the vehicle and license plate matched the vehicle that had fled from me. Troopers had been in the process of ing the vehicle, and a AR rifle, additional 40 S&W ammo, roughly $1500 in cash, and a sizable bag of what appeared to be Marijuana, based on my past training and experience. Ofc’s Anderson and Giem had also arrived on scene. It was decided they would log the firearm, cash, and drugs into the property room. The final weight on the Marijuana was determined to be 448.3 grams (15.8 ounces). A small digital scale was also recovered from the vehicle.
The driver was identified as Mr. Jermonte Green by his state issued driver’s license.
While speaking with GSP Troopers, it was determined I would take custody of Mr. Green and handle transport. Once charges were determined, and citations issued by GSP, Mr. Green was turned over to me and additional charges were added on. Mr. Green was ed, cuffs switched, and then he was secured in the rear of my patrol vehicle.
Mr. Green was charged with the follow from the original traffic stop:
OCGA 40-6-181 Speeding (43 / 30)
OCGA 40-8-20 Driving without Headlights
