On this date, units responded to the incident location on Union Church Road in reference to a disorderly male. While units were still en route, dispatch gave an update that the male had a shotgun, so we then sped up to get there. When I, and another unit first arrived, we started to go around to the rear of the house at the original call location, but we were then told by dispatch that there was a burglary in progress at a house directly across the road from us. We quickly proceeded to that location.
When we arrived at the house, I saw that one of the front windows on the front porch was busted out. There were several potted plants knocked over inside the house. The other unit checked the front door, and it was locked. We then proceeded to the rear of the house to find the back door locked. We announced our presence and then proceeded to make entrance through the rear door by forcing the door open. We could hear voices from a room that was at the front of the . We proceeded to that door and announced our presence. There were at least two voices coming from that room and verbal commands were given for whoever was in the room to come out, but they did not. I moved behind the other unit and that door was then forced open as well.
Upon entering the room, the suspect, a Jermores Patterson, was sitting on the bed and another person was sitting hunched over in a chair in front of the tv. Verbal commands were given for Patterson to get on the floor which he eventually did. He was then placed under arrest and taken to a car to be taken to the jail. I went back to the first location to speak to them about what had happened, while the other unit stayed here to speak to the victim. See supplemental narrative.
The owner of the at the original call location said that the male had come to his back door, the male was visiting his father who lives in a trailer behind the , and he had the shotgun with him. The owner said he had the male come into the house, and he took the shotgun away from him then placed it on the couch. He stated that Patterson then became very irate and started going through the , knocking several items over. He was also apparently yelling the name of the owner’s granddaughter that lives with him, along with her son. During this, the granddaughter heard this going on and this was when she had called 911. She had been giving her son a bath and had locked herself in the bathroom.
The granddaughter then got her son out of the bathroom and left the house, because the male had been calling her name. By this time, the male had retrieved his shotgun off of the couch and had looked out of the window and had apparently seen the granddaughter running away. He had broken the window with the butt of the shotgun and then jumped out that same window. The granddaughter stated that Patterson started chasing her with the shotgun in his hands while she was holding her son running down the road. She went across the street to a neighbors house. She knocked on the door of the neighbors house and made with the neighbor and stayed there until Patterson ended up running to the second house, where he broke in through the window.
The granddaughter stated that she was terrified for her and her sons safety since Patterson had the shotgun while he was running after her. We ed the area for the shotgun, but were unable to locate it.

On 10/05/2024
around 2043 house I Lt. Higginbotham responded to Union Church Road with other OCSO deputies in reference to a man armed with a shotgun inside a residence. While responding to the scene dispatch advised the male with a gun was fighting with another person located at the address. While still responding to the scene units were advised the suspect had jumped through a glass window and had run from the scene still armed with the shotgun. Deputy Shook and I arrived on scene a short time later and began checking the exterior of the residence for the suspect. While conducting the dispatch advised a burglary in progress was occurring across the street involving the same suspect. Sgt. Wooster, Deputy Shook and I responded to the secondary residence on foot. While responding to the scene dispatch advised the suspect was inside the residence and they could hear the victim caller screaming.
Upon arriving at the house I observed blood on the front door of the residence. I attempted to gain entry into the house from the front door, but it was locked. Deputy Shook and I went around the side of the house and to the back door. Once there I was able to hear yelling and screaming coming from inside the house. Due to exigent circumstances I forced entry into the house through the back door. Once inside I announced that it was the Sheriffs Office and asked where they were located. At that time I could hear people talking saying “in here” but could not determine where the noise was coming from. A moment later I noticed blood smeared across a door located at the back of the kitchen. I again announced myself and could hear people talking inside the room. I asked for the door to be opened but no one responded.
Again due to exigent circumstances I forced entry through the bedroom door. Once the door was open I was able to see the suspect, later identified as Jermores Leon Patterson, sitting on the bed and the victim to his left in a chair. I gave commands for Patterson to put his hands up. Patterson complied for a moment but became scared from seeing another deputy outside and fell to the ground screaming. I entered to room and forced Patterson all the way on the ground telling him to go face down on the ground. Patterson was handcuffed and removed from the bedroom. At the time of the arrest Patterson had small cuts on his forearms from jumping through the glass window at the first house. While on scene deputies were unable to locate the shotgun Patterson was armed with when he left the first house.
I checked on the victim who advised he was ok and had not been harmed by Patterson. Upon questioning the victim stated he did not know the suspect and did not give him permission to enter his house or his room. The victim stated he first heard someone talking on his front porch and knocking on the front door. The victim stated that he saw a person that he did not know standing on the front porch. The victim retreated back into his room and called 911. Upon listening to the 911 call later I was able to hear the victim tell OCSO dispatch that someone was trying to break into his house. Over the phone I was able to hear someone banging on a window.
A short time later I was able to hear the suspect force his way into the house. Once inside you can hear the suspect talking to himself while walking around the house. Through the phone I was able to hear the suspect break into the victims bedroom. When that occurred the victim began screaming and yelling for Patterson to not hurt him. The victim continued to repeat the same phrase of please don’t hurt me. While I questioned the victim he stated that Patterson believed someone was after him trying to kill him. He advised that while Patterson was in his room he attempted to smash his way through his bedroom window damaging it. I was later able to look at the window and see that the whole window unit had been forced out of hits frame in the wall and was sticking outside the house. The cracks around the window frame were photographed and attached to the report.
The victim stated that it was a short time later that he heard OCSO deputies inside his house. Once Patterson was out of the house and the victim situated I was able to examine the inside of the house. I was able to locate the window Patterson used to enter the residence. The window was located on the front side of the house near the front door. Due to the angle I approached the house when I arrived I did not see the window. From the blood on the window and the location of the items thrown around the house Patterson pushed the window in breaking the lock. Once the window was push in Patterson pushed over a table filled with potted plants and walked through the house to the victims bedroom.
The victim filled out a victim statement form that is attached to this report along with all pictures of the scene. Damage was done to the back door and door frame from where I forced entry into the house. Due to the bedroom door latch not working properly no damage was done to it when it was forced open by Patterson or myself.
was made with the owner and mother to the victim once she arrived on scene. She was advised of all that had occurred and the damage done to her . Both the mother and son were advised they would be listed as victims, the son for simple assault and the mother for criminal damage. Both mother and son did not wish to be notified when a bond hearing would be conducted by a judge. A victim notification for was competed for each person and provided to jail staff.
