I was dispatched to 1765 Vinson Highway (Johnnie McDade Grocery) in reference to harassment of customers and employees.
Upon arrival, I spoke with [WITNESS #1] (store manager) and other employees in the parking lot. [WITNESS #1] stated a male by the name of Noah Williams was being aggressive to customers as they tried to enter the store. [WITNESS #1] stated one of the male clerks at the store went and talked to Noah and politely asked him to leave. [WITNESS #1] stated Noah became aggressive and belligerent with the clerk, and began threatening him and yelling at everyone. [WITNESS #1] stated she just wanted Noah removed from the property and trespassed from the store.
Noah’s father, [WITNESS #2], walked up as I was talking to [WITNESS #1] and other store employees. [WITNESS #2] stated he would go talk to Noah about his behavior and walked toward Barnes Avenue. [WITNESS #1] described Noah as a black male wearing a red shirt and dark jogging pants. I left Johnnie McDade Grocery to attempt to locate Noah. I located Noah and [WITNESS #2] at the corner of Barnes Avenue and Vinson Highway. I exited my patrol car and approached them. Noah was visibly agitated and speaking loudly.
I told Noah he was not welcome at Johnnie McDade Grocery and I would need to trespass him. I asked Noah for his identification and he said he was not going to give it to me. [WITNESS #2] tried to reason with Noah, but Noah became loud and angry. Noah stated “they were bothering me and I got a right to be there.” I asked Noah again for his identification, and he stated “you ain’t getting my ID and you better back up too.” Noah took a fighting stance and [WITNESS #2] stepped between us. I moved [WITNESS #2] out of the way and delivered a short burst of OC spray to Noah’s face. [WITNESS #2] stepped out of the way as Noah began to turn to run. I delivered another short burst to Noah’s face and he started to run.
I followed close behind and when Noah stopped, I was able to grab one arm. I told Noah to put his hands behind his back. Before I could get control of Noah’s other arm he was able to snatch away and run across the road. Noah ran down a steep embankment. I followed and lost my footing. Noah ran behind a house and then back towards Vinson Highway.
Deputy Johnson was approaching in his patrol car so I radioed to him and let him know the subject in the red shirt was who I was after. Noah quit running at this point and Deputy Johnson was able to gain control of Noah on the ground. I placed handcuffs on Noah and we sat him up. Deputy Johnson retrieved a bottle of water and this was used to attempt to abate the effects of the OC spray.
I placed Noah in the back seat of my patrol car and transported him to the jail without further incident. Noah was turned over to jail staff with a completed booking sheet. I have secured two state warrants on Noah for Obstruction of Officers (Misdemeanor) and Disorderly Conduct. A trespass notice was completed and uploaded to Eagle. A copy of the trespass notice was placed in Noah’s property.
