On October 13, 2024
, Officer Matthew Roberts responded to [1200 BLOCK] Easter Drive Vidalia GA 30474 also known as Raymonia Apartments regarding shots fired.
Upon my arrival I made with some individuals outside who directed me toward building [REDACTED] located in Raymonia Apartments. Once I made my way over to building [REDACTED], I would meet the individuals known as [VICTIM ] and [VICTIM ].
Mrs. [VICTIM ] would state that an older man with a white beard and long sleeve white shirt later identified as (Leroy Rogers), approached her asking for an individual known as [REDACTED]. Mrs. [VICTIM ] stated that [REDACTED] was not there and that he needed to leave. Mr. Rogers then stated that he was interested in Mrs. [VICTIM ] and Mrs. [VICTIM ] refused his advances and advised him that she had a man, and he was upstairs.
That is when Mr. [VICTIM ] arrived and had a confrontation with Mr. Rogers and told him to get out of his face when Mr. Rogers got to close to him. Mr. Rogers refused to back away from Mr. [VICTIM ], Mr. [VICTIM ] then stated that he did push Mr. Rogers out of his face which caused Mr. Rogers to fall. Once Mr. Rogers had fallen, he retrieved a gun out of his pants and stated “don’t run from me now motherfu*ker” as Mr. [VICTIM ] began to run away. Mr. Rogers would fire a single shot at Mr. [VICTIM ].
We then observed a single .380 shell casing under the stairs located at building [REDACTED]. After taking photos of the spent shell casing I then secured the casing in a glove for evidence.
I was then advised by Officer Barbara Deen that Mr. Rodgers was seen outside of building [REDACTED] in the Raymonia apartments. I quickly ran to Officer Deen in case back up was needed. Once we approached Mr. Rogers, we observed that Mr. Rogers fit the description of wearing a long white sleeve and white beard. We then observed blood on the bottom of Mr. Rogers’ shirt. When asked where the blood came from, Mr. Rogers stated that he fell in his apartment.
I then went and gathered my victims to see if they would positively identify Mr. Rogers as the shooter. Mr. [VICTIM ] and Mrs. [VICTIM ] obliged to the request and confronted Mr. Rogers. While I observed their conversation. I learned that Mr. Rogers was in fact over at building [REDACTED] and did get into the altercation described by the victims.
I then asked Mr. Rogers if he owned a firearm in which Mr. Rogers denied having one at all. It wouldn’t be till Lieutenant Shannon Martin would have a conversation with Mr. Rogers that he would admit to shooting the weapon and throwing it into the woods.
After hearing all statements from both parties of the alleged incident. I placed Mr. Rogers under arrest for Aggravated Assault, Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and Possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime. By placing his hands behind his back and using two sets of handcuffs to not hurt Mr. Rogers shoulders and double locked them. I ed for Mr. Rogers incident to arrest and discovered a knife in his back pocket blade open. No contraband was found at this time. I then escorted Mr. Rogers to the rear of Officer Deen’s patrol vehicle where I would seat buckle him in. Officer Deen would then transport Mr. Rogers to TCDC.
